Getting through Death end re;Quest 2 will take you somewhere between 17-20 hours depending on how much reading you choose to do. As far as JRPGs go, this is a fairly brief experience. That’s not to say there’s no additional content to work through once you hit the credits for the first time.

New Game Plus – a gaming staple that has existed since time immemorial. If you ever wanted to play a game through to completion a second time, then doing so whilst maintaining your stuff and unlocking additional content is the way to go. Here’s what Death end re;Quest 2 has to offer.

New Opening Cinematic And Title Screen

The least impactful, but arguably one of the flashiest additions to New Game Plus is the fancy new cinematic that plays when you boot up the game. To avoid spoilers, we won’t go into said changes, but it’s pretty cool. You also get a new title screen to show off to your mates – proving you’ve overcome Le Choara once before.

What Carries Over?

Going into New Game Plus allows you to carry over a few things from your original run. These include:

  • Levels
  • Skills
  • Items
  • Money
  • Episode Chart

Death end re;quest 2 can get pretty difficult on higher difficulties, so being able to bring end-game loot, as well as all your gathered abilities and stats goes a long way to evening out that curve.

Sub-Scenarios

You don’t just get a fancy new opening and the ability to carry over, no. You also get a bunch of additional Sub-Scenarios to play through. These further expand the story and give you plenty of reason to read all the juicy dialogue a second time. There’s just enough new content here to be worth a gander.

Ao Oni Area

The Ao Oni area can be accessed by interacting with the telephone box near Wordsworth (the place you spawn next to every night). This additional mode is a minigame that has you trying to escape creepy monsters called Ao Oni.

If you manage to complete the game, you get a reward – although the main attraction, a +200SP Accessory, can only be obtained once. The mode is mostly throwaway, but it’s an interesting distraction.

Pain Area

The Pain Area is the final ‘mode’ unlocked when starting up New Game Plus. Like with the Ao Oni area, the Pain Area is accessed by interacting with the telephone box new Wordsworth. You will also need to have both Rottie and Liliana in your party before you can access this area.

The Pain Area is essentially a dungeon filled with powerful monsters, even more powerful bosses, and a bunch of loot. Getting through the Pain Area is no easy feat, but the rewards are plentiful. Those who played the original Death end re;Quest might even find some returning faces – which is a nice touch.
