Diablo 2: Resurrected Gets Single-Player Alpha Prior To Multiplayer Stress Test

Blizzard Entertainment delighted fans with the official Diablo 2: Resurrected announcement during BlizzConline. The game is coming in 2021, and players can participate in its two alpha playtests before launch. The first alpha will be dedicated to the single-player experience only, while the stress test for the online multiplayer mode will take place sometime later.

Diablo 2 is a cult-classic, not only defining its genre in due course but managing to maintain its popularity among the community, despite its old age. With a recent remaster announcement, many fans were excited and nervous all at once, wondering if Diablo 2: Resurrected will stick to the original as closely as possible. Players who want to experience the new Diablo 2 and its changes will soon get that chance with alpha tests incoming.

The project’s lead producer Chris Lena revealed plans to conduct technical alpha tests for the Diablo 2 remaster in a conversation with PCGamesN. According to the developer, the team behind Diablo 2: Resurrected will launch the single-player mode test first. After its completion, the team will begin the second alpha stage, focusing on multiplayer and stress-test for the game servers. Both events will take place before the game’s release slated for 2021. The details and approximate timing of the tests are not yet specified.

Chris Lena said alpha testing “will begin to shape the future of Diablo 2: Resurrected.” Developers are willing to make balance changes if necessary to keep the game “alive” for the new community. The producer noted that rebalancing would only be done if players really want these changes for the remaster.

Previously the development team confirmed several details coming in Diablo 2: Resurrected, including the mod support. The game also features cross-progression for PC and console and a bunch of small improvements like optional auto gold pickup and shared stash for in-game characters.

You can apply to participate in the alpha testing of Diablo 2: Resurrected on the game’s official website. The remastered action-RPG is scheduled for release by the end of 2021 on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles, as well as Nintendo Switch. The package will include the original Diablo 2 and Lord of Destruction expansion with two additional characters.
