The professional Dota 2 player Alaan Faraj passed away from unknown causes on December 10, 2021. Faraj was also known by his screen name SexyBamboe. The announcement was made by several of his friends and teammates over this past weekend. He was 29 years old.
“RIP Bamboe. Will be missed. My heart goes out to all who feel the loss, especially close friends and family,” Wagamama said. SexyBamboe competed against Wagamama in Dota 2 before both of them started streaming.
“Rest easy. You were always a great friend to me and a person that I could talk about anything with and bullshit around. You will be missed,” said Gorgc. SexyBamboe and Gorgc were teammates in Bald.
SexyBamboe started his career as a professional gamer by playing DotA with GoD and DCcom between 2009 and 2011 at which point he made the transition to Dota 2. He played for several teams including LowLandLions, Mousesports, and Absolute Legends in 2012. He went on to play for three more teams over the course of the following two years including Evil Geniuses and Zephyr. Saying that he found professional gaming in Korea to be less active than he anticipated, SexyBamboe left Zephyr after a long tenure with the team in 2014. He went on to play for nine other teams between 2015 and 2018 before he finally joined Bald in 2019.
SexyBamboe became a popular streamer as he slowly turned away from professional gaming. He was active in the Dota 2 community, providing all sorts of analysis and commentary on the game. SexyBamboe was frequently seen with his former teammates and fellow streamers Gorgc and SingSing. He was a fixture in the Dota 2 community from 2018 to 2020 before he suddenly disappeared in 2021 which prompted many of his followers to speculate about what happened. This continued until the recent announcement of his death at which point most of the speculation shifted to what caused him to pass away. His friends and teammates have been asking the Dota 2 community to respect the privacy of his family.
“Helpful if people don't speculate. Lost a great guy. Hope his family can grieve privately without people wondering what's going on and prying. Love Zephyr. Bamboe forever,” Blitz said. SexyBamboe played Dota 2 with Blitz in Zephyr.
While his friends and family mourn the loss of SexyBamboe, the Dota 2 community has been coming together to remember the professional gamer. SingSing said that he plans to hold a memorial every Christmas which will be open to the public.
