As a game all about killing zombies and surviving an apocalypse, there was no way that Dying Light 2 was going to miss out on including one of the genre's most iconic weapons – the crossbow.
You'll first encounter the crossbow when you run into one of the game's most important characters, Lawan, who uses one herself. Despite this, you're not actually going to gain access to the weapon for quite some time. In fact, it can only be unlocked through a very specific method and will easily be missed by most players.
How To Unlock The Crossbow In Dying Light 2
The only crossbow that we've been able to find in Dying Light 2 so far is the PK Crossbow. This weapon is unlocked by giving the Peacekeepers four structures throughout the game, which you're likely to make happen in the game's second map, the Central Loop.
If you've not run into the mechanic so far, at a certain point you'll be tasked to give a water tower to either the Peacekeepers or the Survivors. You'll receive different upgrades depending on what side you choose. The Peacekeeper rewards are mainly focused on weaponry and traps, while the Survivors build structures for you to parkour on. You don't need to strictly stick to one side, but you have to unlock the items in a certain order, so you can't just skip to the final upgrade on one side after giving the rest to another.
The crossbow is the fourth unlock on the Peacekeeper's side and is easily the best one of them all considering it looks to be the only way to unlock the weapon, and because the rest of the upgrades are a bit situational. Once you've unlocked the crossbow, you'll receive it in your Player Stash, which can be found in any safe area.
The crossbow works in much the same way as the bow and arrow, although it works with crossbow bolts instead of arrows. You'll also need to craft the bolts yourself, which similarly come in a variety of different elemental types. The benefit to the crossbow is that you don't need to individually unlock different types of elemental bolts, it doesn't degrade over time, and it's far more powerful than the bow, easily being able to take out a zombie in a few shots.
