Today is a very Dynasty Warriors-themed day, it seems. Out of the blue, Koei Tecmo has released a PS5 compatibility patch for the rather excellent Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends Complete Edition. Released on the PS4 back in 2013, it seems some users were experiencing issues when playing the game on PS5 via backward compatibility. Well, those issues are no more!
This update is hardly a next-gen port of the game, but it does correct the issue of vibrating enemies that players were encountering. It will likely also improve performance a little, which is a good thing. The game ran a little choppy on the base PS4 back in the day, so having it at mostly 60 fps would improve things dramatically.
While the update was revealed by Koei Tecmo Europe, it should be available worldwide for all PS4 versions of the game. Just look for the 1.03 patch in your downloads and you’ll be set to jump back into Lu Bu’s fiery rampage across China without issue. I have to wonder if the patch was readied because of Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires’ delay.
Even if it wasn’t, it’s nice to see an update for an eight-year-old game on the PS4. Most titles running in backward compatibility operate fine, but some have odd issues from the PS5’s increased horsepower. Having patches fix those issues on older games will ensure that players come back and potentially invest in the future of the series. Now we just need to hope that Dynasty Warriors can rebound from the awful 9.
