Elden Ring not only has an impressive collection of bosses for the lowly Tarnished to contend with, but their regular enemies are not ones to scoff at either. From toughest enemies to enemies with tragic backgrounds, The Lands Between are rife with opponents to test the Tarnished's mettle. But what about tough bosses that have transitioned to regular enemies later on in more difficult areas?
Although the concept of repetition may prove dull in the long run, Elden Ring does it so seamlessly and naturally that you don't really mind it. From the agile Bloodhound Knight to the magnificent draconic deity that is Ancient Dragon Lansseax, these tough bosses you will now encounter as regular enemies in your journey further North of the map. You definitely hoped never to encounter such foes again, but after all, this is a FromSoftware game.
10 Crystalian
Encountered in various caves throughout The Lands Between, any awe you have for these beautiful beings is trumped by the fact that they're challenging to defeat. Known as the Crystalians, these slender creatures hewn from crystal wield various weapons, from a ringblade to a staff.
Their tough outer shell represents the most significant issue, taking time to whittle down and break through. You'll definitely have your work cut out for you when you face the Putrid Crystalian trio of Sellia Hideaway in Caelid. Serving as bosses, you can find Crystalians as regular enemies in Moonlight Altar, as well as at Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree.
9 Lesser Red Wolf Of Radagon
The Red Wolf of Radagon was truly a mighty foe during your clash at the Academy of Raya Lucaria. As the first boss found in the magical academy, this crimson beast certainly left an indelible impression. Now, you will encounter this creature as a regular enemy throughout the game.
Known as the Lesser Red Wolf, this version of the main boss can be found throughout different locations in The Lands Between. For instance, you can find the Lesser Red Wolf in Upper Hallowhorn Grounds in Nokron, Eternal City, guarding one of the braziers to the Regal Ancestor Spirit boss. You can also find this difficult opponent guarding three pavilions housing Smithing Stones at Moonlight Altar. The difference is, that these enemies can't summon a magic sword in their mouths, so God bless for small mercies.
8 Erdtree Avatar
Usually found at the base of Minor Erdtrees in Limgrave and Liurnia, these Erdtree Avatars are definitely a challenging boss fight. But after you progress further from these regions, these Erdtree Avatars have been demoted to regular enemies, but no less difficult than as bosses.
As soon as you reach Leyndell, Royal Capital, nearing Avenue Balcony Site of Grace, an Erdtree Avatar drops from the sky. Barring your way to the Site of Grace, it's not the end of your encounter with the Erdtree Avatar. After defeating the difficult Valiant Gargoyle duo and continuing on to Deeproot Depths, you'll find yourself face-to-face with another Erdtree Avatar, patrolling the path to The Nameless Eternal City and Lake of Rot beyond.
7 Crucible Knight/ Crucible Knight Siluria
Known as the hardest Evergaol boss, the Crucible Knight is also a boss at Redmane Castle and other catacombs. Along with a different iteration dubbed Crucible Knight Siluria, their relentless, aggressive combat tactics make them a force to be reckoned with. But the trials and tribulations are just beginning for the Lowly Tarnished.
On your way to the Valiant Gargoyle boss fight, you'll find a Crucible Knight walking back and forth on the walkway, as well as a Siluria version waiting for you by the balcony. You will also find Crucible Knights in Leyndell, Royal Capital, particularly the version with a whirring spear.
6 Omenkiller
A boss first found in the Village of the Albinaurics, the Omenkiller boss is an aggressive hard-hitter with its dual machetes, backed up by two, baying dogs. But since this is a FromSoft game, it certainly won't be the last you see of the Omenkiller and its ilk.
Found at Leyndell, Royal Capital right outside the Lower Capital Church Site of Grace, thankfully, it is the only foe you have to face within the radius of that area. But another Omenkiller is found at Prison Town Church in Volcano Manor, convening around a large bonfire, with smaller, yet deadly hostiles to give you grief.
5 Bloodhound Knight
Bloodhound Knight Darriwil will always live in infamy as a severely challenging boss, with its startling speed and ability to quickly deal Bleed damage. Now the Lowly Tarnished has more Bloodhound Knights to look forward to in their journey to becoming Elden Lord.
A sly, sneaky creature, you'll find a Bloodhound Knight hanging from Raya Lucaria Academy's South Gate, ready to pounce on the unsuspecting Tarnished below. In another instance, Volcano Manor houses yet another Bloodhound Knight wielding Wolverine-like Bloodhound Claws, ready to claw your eyes out in the prevailing darkness of the manor's underbelly.
4 Misbegotten Warrior
Elden Ring has no end in extremely aggressive bosses, and Leonine Misbegotten of Castle Morne is one of them. Armed with a greatsword that deals massive amounts of damage paired with impeccable range, this beast undoubtedly sends shivers running down your spine as it charges at you.
With the lesser version of this boss being the Misbegotten Warrior, you'll find the latter a particularly annoying foe in Leyndell, Royal Capital. When you see them, the best thing to do is to run as fast as you can to your intended destination.
3 Godskin Noble
The boss of the Temple of Eiglay in Volcano Manor, the Godskin Noble pairs the ability of a seasoned chevalier with the malleability of cookie dough. Wielding a wicked sharp rapier, this boss' thrusting combos are capable of one-shotting you in an instant, and let's not get started when it starts rolling about indiscriminately.
As you make your way through the inverted Carian Study Hall, you find yourself on the bridge with the Divine Tower of Liurnia at the end. Running eagerly toward your goal, you'd think nothing could stop you until a familiar, flabby face makes its appearance. You might take a few hits, but you can simply run past this nuisance to the Divine Tower's doors.
2 Draconic Tree Sentinel
A sure upgrade to the Tree Sentinels encountered in Limgrave and the gates to Leyndell, Royal Capital, the Draconic Tree Sentinel shows you just why it is to be feared. Capable of wielding red lightning and dealing damage from a distance, this boss is certainly one you don't want to meet ever again.
Having reached Crumbling Farum Azula, the Lowly Tarnished is more than dismayed to find the Draconic Tree Sentinel barring their way to Maliketh, the Black Blade. Simply a regular enemy now, you just wish it was some other hostile NPC, but Elden Ring exists to go against expectations.
1 Ancient Dragon Lansseax
First encountered, then fought, in Altus Plateau, Ancient Dragon Lansseax definitely left her mark when it comes to dragon bosses. Emulating Sekiro's Divine Dragon with her lightning glaive, Lansseax leaves no holds barred as she wreaks havoc with her red lightning showers and fire breaths.
Right at the beginning of the Crumbling Farum Azula region, Lansseax's twin swoops in from the sky, beady eyes screaming bloody murder. But wait, there's more. Yet another Lansseax clone can be found further in this legacy dungeon, up to her usual tricks again. At least they don't respawn once you defeat them.
