Elden Ring getting full co-op multiplayer thanks to fan-made mod

The fan behind Sekiro’s co-op mod is also making one for Elden Ring and a public beta is coming very soon.

Elden Ring does already have co-op options, since you can summon other players to assist you if you’re struggling with a particular boss or other set piece, but you can’t just play through the whole game with another person.

For anyone who wants to properly explore The Lands Between with another player, you’ll be pleased to know that a true co-op experience is coming to the game very soon.

Not from FromSoftware, though, but from fan and modder LukeYui, a well-known figure within the FromSoftware community.

They’ve had previous experience creating mods for other FromSoftware games, including co-op and PvP modes for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

They also helped raised awareness of a serious PC exploit in FromSoftware’s games, including Elden Ring, and released an anti-cheat mod to help combat it.

LukeYui has shared a brief demonstration of the mod on YouTube, featuring two players travelling together by foot, on their own horses, and working together to fell a boss.

The aim behind the mod is to remove all multiplayer boundaries and allow for connections to persist even after a player dies.

They lay out more concrete details in a pinned comment underneath the video, explaining that the mod will allow up to four players to join a game.

All items and progress will be shared as well, so players won’t need to fight over who gets what, whenever they find treasure or kill an enemy.

The PvP invasions are turned off, but there will be an item that turns on friendly fire, so you and your travelling companions can get into fights with each other if you want.

There’s also going to be a spectator mode, so if you die while fighting a boss you can at least keep watching your allies and see how they get on.

The mod is still in beta, but it will become available for public download on Friday, May 27. The one downside is that it’s a PC only mod so console players are out of luck.

As for official Elden Ring DLC, there hasn’t been any mention of it from FromSoftware. With how popular the game is, and the fact that the Dark Souls games got DLC, it’s a safe bet that something is being worked on.

Elden Ring is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
