How PS5 backward compatibility works – how to play PlayStation 4 games on new console
Set several years after the events of Resident Evil 7, the upcoming Resident Evil sequel begins with Ethan Winters and his wife Mia settling down and starting a family. But things aren’t quite as simple as that.
Resident Evil fan favourite Chris Redfield soon turns up at their home.
And in a shocking twist, he kidnaps their daughter, Rosemary.
Determined to track down his child, Ethan follows the trail to a creepy-looking gothic village in Europe. And that’s where things really start to go sideways.
It seems the titular village is under siege from werewolf-like monsters and it’s up to Ethan to fight his way out. Throw in the mysterious Lady Dimitrescu – the tall vampire lady everyone has been thirsting over – and it’s a classic tale of vampires and werewolves wrapped up in a Resident Evil game.
Exploring the village and the castle which overlooks it, Ethan is forced to fight for survival – and to find his daughter before it’s too late.

PS5 stock update – when and where to buy PlayStation 5 this week
Much like its predecessor, Resident Evil 8 is a first-person survival horror.
Bucking the trend from the rest of the Resident Evil series, this closer camera brings you into the action and horror a bit more in an attempt to amplify the scares.
And much like Resident Evil 7, you’ll be forced to take on a variety of supernatural foes. But this time, the shambling Molded make way for a more urgent threat – the monsters seen in the demos, attacking the village. To take on these horrifying foes, you’ll need a good range of weaponry. Luckily, Resident Evil Village has you covered.
There are guns, knives and other goodies aplenty – you can even make use of mines and traps to confuse and annihilate your enemies. And a quick slot system gives you access to them all at your fingertips.
Run out of ammo? Not to worry – Resident Evil Village features a seemingly robust crafting system which allows you to scavenge components and build useful items such as health kits, ammo and others.
You can upgrade your weapons, too – with a quick trip to The Duke.
This extravagant new character sells weapons, ammo and upgrades to improve your stock weapons. Increase a weapon’s firepower, rate of fire, reload speed or ammo capacity with ease. As always, ammo management is key – but with these upgrades it will be far less of an issues.
It wouldn’t be Resident Evil without some puzzles to solve. These largely seem to come in the form of items needed to unlock new areas of the map… but will also likely include fixing broken radios, helping other survivors and all the usual Resident Evil tricks.
All-in-all, these systems should all feel pretty familiar. But the addition of a new hunting system is something fresh – even if it is more in line with the FarCry games than Resident Evil.
