Fans Are Making Scarily Accurate Miis Of Cartoon And Anime Characters In Miitopia

The undeniable and unrivaled passion that the Nintendo community has for anything customizable is well documented at this point. Give them a basic level designer in Smash Bros. Ultimate, and they’ll create masterpieces. Give them Tomodachi Life, and you’ll get the most weird and wonderful character interactions.

And now, it turns out all they needed was a slightly beefed up version of the classic Mii creator, as thousands of creations are born from the new Miitopia demo.

The Switch port of 2016’s Miitopia isn’t even out yet, and the demo has only bee available for a week. Regardless, fans got to work fast, using the wider ranger of available colours, and the ability to place facial features wherever you want to faithfully recreate cartoon and anime characters,

r/Miitopia is a sea of creations. One user, u/Jake_The_Silent, shared a collection of Miis, including Haida from Aggretsuko, the Crystal Gems from Steven Universe, and Sans and Papyrus from Undertale.

u/FoodgeGuy meanwhile has made a terrifyingly detailed Spongebob Squarepants – buck teeth and all.

In case he was feeling left out u/jul124 has a Handsome Squidward to keep him company. All of these creations are possible due to the new ability to alter skin colour to vibrant shades of yellow, blue and more with makeup.

This is a far cry from the lookalike Miis of the Wii days that you’d meet in the Mii Plaza parade. Back then the best you could really hope for was someone else kinda being able to tell who the Mii is meant to be. Now however, it’s not only incredibly obvious who the community is creating, but it’s now possibly to perfectly recreate the source material’s entire art style.

The upgraded re-release of Miitopia is set to launch later this month, May 21. The original was released on Nintendo 3DS in 2016. Progress from this demo can be carried over into the full version of the game, which aside from a few additional features and boosted visuals, is expected to remain much the same to the original.
