The Japanese description for the Erichthonios minion in Final Fantasy 14 is giving fans the giggles on social media. The description features an unfortunate typo that misspells Erichthonios as “Erecthonius” and it doesn’t take too much effort to realize why everyone is finding this typo so funny. I mean, besides the occasional eunuch, who doesn’t find a boner joke hilarious?
As you might expect, the Internet is having a field day with this misspelling. In a Reddit thread about the typo, several of the commenters can’t help themselves from leaning into the obvious jokes to be made. One user notes that the character is a “stand-up” guy, while another begs people not to be “too hard” on the devs for this. Then there is the one person who just threw all subtlety out the window and renamed Erichthonios to “Erect Hornyius”!
Others are wondering if this is a typo at all. Have the Final Fantasy 14 developers finally decided to lean into the palpable sexual energy that Erichthonios exudes? I mean, he is a giant metal-looking beast with a ton of chains wrapped around his body and protruding from his back. Talk about kinky!
It’s hard (great, now I’m doing it) to imagine the devs rearranging the character’s name just to add the word “erect” to it. This is obviously a typo or auto-correct working its magic, which is understandable considering the name Erichthonios doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. I bet Kindergarten for him was a nightmare trying to learn all those letters.
In other Final Fantasy 14-related news, Xbox head Phil Spencer has reiterated his desire to get the critically acclaimed MMORPG on Xbox consoles stating that "we haven’t given up yet." Not the biggest of updates, but proof that Xbox is still working with Square Enix on some kind of deal behind the scenes.
