First Gameplay Trailer For Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader Revealed

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader promises to be a very different kind of Warhammer game. Where most titles set in the grim dark future of the 400th-century feature desperate combat against alien forces seeking the utter annihilation of humanity, Rogue Trader will feature exploration of the great unknown, negotiation with alien species, and also desperate fights against forces that seek the destruction of humanity. It's still Warhammer, after all.

Revealed at Gamescom 2022, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is a classic turn-based RPG coming from Owlcat Games, the same folks that brought us the Pathfinder RPGs. Fans of the Pathfinder games will see a lot of commonalities with Rogue Trader, from the same camera angles to its turn-based combat. But unlike Pathfinder, Rogue Trader will have the player control not just a party, but also a massive voidship sailing across the stars.

A Rogue Trader, in the universe of Warhammer 40K, is part of an ancient dynasty of privateers that reigned over an enormous merchant empire and explored the deepest fringes of known space. In stark contrast to the oppressive rule of the Imperium, Rogue Traders are bestowed enormous power and privileges thanks to a Warrant of Trade, allowing them to act on the Emperor's behalf in all things. This means instead of immediately murdering all alien life, Rogue Traders can engage in diplomatic parlay, although there will certainly be alien species that want nothing to do with diplomacy.

In the gameplay trailer showcased during the PC Gaming Show, Rogue Traders will have to combat deadly Drukhari, Chaos cultists, and alien monsters, in addition to the occasional void spawn. It seems that there might also be a few human settlements that haven’t heard the good word of the Emperor in some time and need to be brought back into the fold.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is due out sometime in 2023 on PC platforms including Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store. A Collector's Box will include an eight-inch figure of Navigator Cassia Orsellio, an art book, A copy of the Warrant of Trade, a sticker pack, and a cloth banner. A founder’s pack will also be available that will provide alpha and beta access to eager traders.
