Those Xbox console owners having to decide between Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass have a pretty easy choice in May.
While Microsoft has provided a nice combo of titles to download via Games with Gold, it’s hard to beat what’s available and what’s coming to Xbox Game Pass in May.
And that’s without mentioning the fact that the tech giant has now removed the requirement to have Live Gold to play free games.
So from now on, you are no longer required to have Xbox Live Gold to play games like Call of Duty Warzone on Xbox One, or Xbox Series X consoles.
A message from Microsoft explaining the transition adds: “ As part of listening to your feedback, this change will take place starting today, and all Xbox players will be able to access online multiplayer at no charge for a library of over 50 free-to-play games that support online multiplayer.
“The full list of more than 50 free-to-play games is available on Xbox.com; the Xbox.com list will be updated as more free-to-play games launch.”
Removing the need for Xbox Live Gold is Microsoft’s latest move in downgrading the importance of the subscription service.
Meanwhile, Xbox Game Pass continues to be refreshed with new and exciting games.
May is no different with plenty of new content to check out spanning a variety of different genres.
The end of April saw the release of Second Extinction and Destroy All Humans! Which are both worth a look at.
But some of the big releases were saved for May itself, with Dragon Quest Builders 2 and FIFA 21 now available to play.
It should be noted that FIFA 21 can only be played via Xbox Game Pass if you have the Ultimate version.
But even with the EA Sports title included in the list, there’s a lot of other stuff being planned.
Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, Just Cause 4: Reloaded, and Psychonauts will become playable via XGP on May 13.

The same day will also see the release of Red Dead Online, which comes with an interesting twist.
While this is only the multiplayer portion of the hit Rootin’ Tootin’ Cowboy Shootin’ adventure, it will be available to play on consoles and Cloud.
So that means you’ll be able to explore the Wild West via your Android phone, something that makes for a very unique, albeit niche, selling point.
And today has also seen another game announced for the Xbox Pass subscription service.
According to developers Funcom, Conan Exiles will be added to the Xbox Game Pass in the coming weeks.
Included below are some of the highlights for May’s Xbox Game Pass releases as confirmed so far:
Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster brings the timeless classics forward to the current generation of fans, old and new alike. Fully immerse yourself in the World of Spira as you enjoy over 100 combined hours of gameplay across the two classic titles.
Just Cause 4: Reloaded delivers an expansive and explosive experience with new weapons, vehicles, and gear included! Soar through the skies at high speeds using the Skystriker Weaponized Wingsuit or cruise the roads of Solís using the Deathstalker Scorpion Muscle Car.
Join millions of fellow players in Red Dead Online, now packed with years’ worth of new features, gameplay, and additional enhancements. Step into a vibrant, ever-evolving world and experience life across frontier America.
Conan Exiles starts with players who have nothing but their bare hands to forge the legacy of their clan, building anything a small home to gigantic fortresses and entire cities.
