Fortnite: All Close Encounter Quests

The Heavy Shotgun is back in Fortnite and so is the Close Encounters LTM. Here's how to complete its quests and earn some extra experience points.

The previous version of the Heavy Shotgun was infamous for how overpowered it was, but it's been tweaked and reintroduced to the game. It can be found as floor loot, inside chests, or in supply drops. To celebrate the weapon's return, Epic Games has added the Close Encounters Limited Time Mode to Fortnite. Here's how to complete its quests.

Close Encounters Quests

The Close Encounters LTM is back temporarily and it's got its own set of challenges that can be completed for some experience points. The quests will be available until February 15, as the LTM will most likely be removed from the game and another one will take its place. So, you've got a limited amount of time to get through them as soon as you can because they're a bit more challenging than regular daily and weekly quests. You can also enjoy unvaulted shotguns in this mode, like the Tactical and the Pump shotgun, as well as mobility items like Impulse Grenades.

Unfortunately, Close Encounters has come back only as a Squad's game mode which can be a bit frustrating for solo players, especially because of the quests associated with it. It's also pointless to try to complete daily quests in this mode because doing your tasks won't count towards your progress.

Here are all the available quests, how many experience points you'll be rewarded with for completing, and how to successfully complete them.

  • Deal damage to opponents from above in Close Encounters (100)

This first challenge is worth 10,000XP and all you have to do is deal 100 damage to your opponents while having the high ground. Dealing this much damage shouldn't be a problem because of how powerful shotguns are. The new Heavy Shotgun should be particularly useful here since it now has a longer range than before.

  • Eliminate two player opponents within 30 seconds of each other in Close Encounters

This quest is a bit more difficult so it's worth 12,000XP. The best way to do this is to knock down a player and not finish them straight away. Then, try to knock down one of their teammates. If you can do this successfully, you just finish them both off afterwards and they'll be eliminated at the same time, finishing the quest immediately.

  • Get an elimination with 10 or fewer players remaining in Close Encounters

For this last quest, which is worth 14,000XP, not only will you have to be in one of the top teams but you'll also have to manage to get an elimination. Camping and gathering the best materials in isolated areas can make a game go by in a flash and since you don't put yourself at risk it's more likely that you'll make it to the top ten players – just be careful because the storm closes in quicker in this mode.

  • Bonus Goals: Complete three 'Close Encounters' quests

This bonus goal is just an extra 18,000XP that you'll receive as a reward for completing all three quests. In total, for completing all three quests and the bonus quest, you can get 54,000XP.
