Fortnite gets new subscription service for £9.99 a month

Chapter 2 Season 5 of Fortnite will bring with it a major change in how the game is paid for, with the introduction of Fortnite Crew.

Just as rumoured, Epic Games are set to begin a new subscription service for Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 5, that includes the Battle Pass, new outfits, and extra in-game currency.

Fortnite might technically be free but a significant proportion of its audience pay for the Battle Pass that accompanies each season, which costs around £8 of in-game currency.

Seasons typically last for around two months though, so the subscription works out as considerably more expensive if you’re going to keep it going all year.

As well as access to the Battle Pass the subscription also gives you 1,000 V-Bucks of in-game currency every month, worth roughly £6.50.

There’s also a new monthly crew pack, which includes an ‘always-new’ outfit bundle and at least one accessory which is exclusive to subscribers.

The first bundle will include the exclusive Galaxia Outfit and Style, plus the Cosmic Llamacorn Pickaxe and Fractured World Back Bling.

The Fortnite Crew subscription will be available from the in-game item shop or Battle Pass purchases screen from December 2.

Season 4 of the game is scheduled to end on November 30 but it’s not yet clear when exactly Season 5 begins. This makes it sound like it’ll be December 2, but we’ll have to wait until there’s an official announcement.

You can still buy the Battle Pass separately and if you’ve already bought the current one when you subscribe Epic Games says you’ll be refunded 950 V-Bucks.

Also, the Battle Bundle has been replaced by a bundle of 25 levels which cost 1,850 V-Bucks (around £10). You can only buy them once per season, if you’re level 75 or lower, and they’re being kept separate to the Battle Pass and Fortnite Crew subscription.
