Forza Horizon 5 was one of the biggest launches of last year. The game rose up the earnings charts and even made it onto several Game of the Year lists – it placed fifth on TheGamer's list. March 29 will see it receive a major update that will not only bring improvements to the multiplayer, but also introduce an all new progression system.
As per the patch notes, the major additions that will be introduced are:
- Horizon Open has been updated with a new progression system including Badges which can be unlocked through gameplay
- Added Custom Racing to Horizon Open, which will allow players to find races for their chosen race discipline and PI class
- Fixed some scenarios where the player could be left waiting longer than necessary in the post-race flow
The EventLab has also seen a number of new additions. Firstly, players will be able to mess with gravity physics to make their creations soar even higher. Sounds can now be previewed before adding them in, along with a few tweaks to the UI for when using manual gears. A number of other minor changes include fixes to various cars, Accolade completion, and a whole host of stability and performance improvements.
Forza is still receiving awards, and this time it was thanks to the in-depth accessibility features that have been included in the game. A March 1 update introduced ASL and BSL versions of sign language for all cinematics. These saw Forza Horizon 5 win an award at the 2021 Video Game Accessibility Awards, under the AI Assistance category. This category is for games that help the player through in-game artificial intelligence.
In his review for TheGamer, Sam Watanuki gave Forza Horizon five stars out of five, "I feel like I’ve accomplished so much in the game thus far, while still feeling like I’ve only barely scratched the surface," He wrote. "It’s all that I can do right now to keep writing this review and not play Forza Horizon 5. That alone is the exclamation point that allows me to shed any doubt in my giving this game a perfect score."
