Gamers go wild following Elden Ring ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’ DLC announcement

One of the biggest games ever made is about to get even bigger: Elden Ring is getting an expansion pack.

The hugely popular and notoriously difficult fantasy RPG, which now has more than 20 million players, will soon get some fresh DLC in the form of an expansion called 'Shadow of the Erdtree'.

Details are still very light, but the creators of the game at FromSoftware have formally announced that it is in development just one year after the game's initial release.

In a tweet announcing the DLC, FromSoftware said: "Rise, Tarnished, and let us walk a new path together.

"An upcoming expansion for Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree, is currently in development. We hope you look forward to new adventures in the Lands Between."

Despite there being very few details about what the DLC will look like or when it will come out, FromSoftware has said that it will be available to Elden Ring players on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, and Steam.

Fans are already speculating that the expansion will explore the story of Miquella, a mysterious character who features prominently in Elden Ring but that players never actually meet.

That's because the concept artwork shared by FromSoftware features a blonde-haired character who resembles Miquella, who is cursed to be young forever.

Players can currently follow Miquella's storyline in the vanilla version of Elden Ring by embarking on a secret mission to the Haligtree.

Whatever the DLC turns out to be, Elden Ring fans are already buzzing with excitement.

One gaming Youtuber, Your Narrator, tweeted: "This has easily become my favourite game in all of the soul series. I can't wait to see what the expansion has in store!"

Elden Ring was released just over a year ago in February 2022. This notoriously difficult game won more than 331 Game of the Year awards and sold 20 million copies in its first year.
