Xbox has been leaning heavily on its Game Pass concept, which sees hundreds of titles available for free every month as well as same-day-play on new releases. Today, it’s getting bigger by offering subscribers two free months of anime shows from Funimation, one of North America’s biggest English version distributors.
It seems that, as far as Xbox is concerned, Game Pass is going to be the center around which all of Microsoft’s properties will orbit. The payment plan for the Xbox Series X (dubbed “all-access”) even includes Game Pass for just $35 a month. That’s to say nothing of Xcloud—a part of Game Pass subscriptions that will allow you to stream games on your console, phone, or PC.
The addition of 13,000 hours of free anime (for two-months) shouldn’t be surprising at this point. Of course, it still is, but it is a welcome surprise. Funimation’s Premium Plus subscription tier gives you access to the entire library of anime on the site, as well as simulcast shows from Japan. If dubbed shows are more up your alley, the company is one of the leaders in dubbed anime for English speaking audiences.
Classics such as Dragon Ball Z and My Hero Academia can be found on the site, as well as exclusives like Millionaire Detective—imagine Bruce Wayne, but he’s a regular detective, and he judges everyone based on their net worth. There are literally hundreds of shows to sink your teeth into on the service. So if you’re running out of things to watch on Netflix, this might be just the thing you need.
Unfortunately, this offer only applies to new Funimation accounts, so if you’re already subscribing, you won’t be getting the same benefits. You’ll also need to redeem it on the Xbox One or Xbox mobile app. The offer is valid from September 25 to October 24, so if you want to take advantage of this, you have a little less than a month to do it. If you’re still on the fence, take our professional recommendation: Funimation is one of the best sources of anime out there. We’d suggest giving it a try.
