Ghostbusters has introduced a lot of funny-looking ghosts, but also some scary ones which can be seen in Ghostbusters – Spirits Unleashed. There are only five types of Ghosts to play, each one having several variants that are unlocked based on the Ghost's level.
You start off only being able to play as the Ectoplast, but once your Player Profile reaches level 20, you'll be able to play as the Ghouly type. This is a vicious reptilian-like Ghost with multiple arms and a gaping maw full of sharp teeth. This Ghouly was made for scaring, and here's how to be the most effective one.
Seek Out Individuals
Much like the Velociraptor that it resembles, the Ghouly is made to be a hunter. With its teeth and claws, it's an effective melee class that does the most damage up close. While Busters roam around looking for you, you can take the opportunity to focus on scaring Civilians one by one.
While typically scaring can Horrify them fast, the Ghouly is blessed (or cursed) with the ability to Possess Civilians, which will add to their Horror and raise the overall haunting by a good chunk of points.
Mess With Busters In Packed Areas
You need to be aggressive when playing as the Ghouly as their abilities are more effective the longer they remain near their targets. Unfortunately, if all the Busters are drawn to your location, this can be a problem. The Ghouly is hampered by being more vulnerable to tethering and has a harder time breaking out, which is even worse when there are multiple Busters around.
Although your Ultimate can down a Buster group effectively, you should restrict your encounters with them to spaces with lots of obstacles. This way you can break the tether before they trap you by moving behind stuff like furniture.
Mind Your Energy
Due to relying on brawn and power, the Ghouly does not have the biggest energy reserve. As a result, it can be risky to use all of it on minor scare tactics such as haunting objects since too many will rapidly drain what little you have.
Because of this, you should put it towards your strengths, which mainly involve scaring Civilians and downing individual Busters. This way, you'll be more likely to have some Energy remaining should things get too dangerous and you need to make a quick escape.
Possess Whenever You Can
The Ghouly has two distinct abilities in its Ultimate and its unique secondary skill, Possession. When ready, the Ghouly will be able to possess any Civilian that has reached the Worry state. Since the Ghouly is scary, it can make Civilians Worry with just one good scare and then immediately Possess them.
While possessing a Civilian, you have complete control of their movements and will remain in them as long as you have energy. Once possession ends, the Civilian will be immediately Horrified, which will add to the Haunting. As a bonus, Busters will not be able to tether you while possessing a Civilian.
Use Your Range
Even though the Ghouly doesn't have much energy and relies mainly on close encounters to be effective, it also has a fair amount of range. This is mainly applied to its ability to Possess and Haunt objects that it can target. As a result, it can focus on character targets while also having something to work with as passes through different areas.
Particularly, it's useful for recovery and escape since the Ghouly is quite a large target and will have a harder time slipping away. With ranged possession, it can break sight and contact from a distance while also entering a recovery state.
