It's almost the end of the year which means everyone throughout the video game industry is busy trying to decide what the best games of the year have been. PlayStation recently revealed the winners of its annual awards, of which it handed out 16, and surprising no one, PlayStation exclusive God of War Ragnarok won more than half of them.
The results of PlayStation's annual awards have been published on the console creator's blog. Before all you Elden Ring fans seek out who you need to complain to about Ragnarok's dominance, since FromSoftware's game didn't win a single category, every award handed out was decided by a fan vote. Granted, most people visiting the PlayStation blog will be PlayStation owners, so it certainly makes sense that Ragnarok has cleaned up.
Although Elden Ring didn't take the Platinum award home in any category, it was a runner-up in a few. As for the top awards Ragnarok reaped for PlayStation in 2022, Kratos and co. picked up the Platinum for Best PS5 Game, Best PS4 Game, Best Story, and Best Accessibility Features. Perhaps somewhat surprising for that last one as The Last Of Us Part 1, which finished second, was celebrated for its accessibility.
Also among Ragnarok's ten PlayStation awards were the top prizes for Best Soundtrack, and Best New Character which was given to Thor. As for the other six awards, none of which Ragnarok could have won even if it wanted to, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 won Best Multiplayer Experience, Gran Turismo 7 beat FIFA 23 to be crowned Best Sports Game, and Stray was given the award for Best Independent Game.
PlayStation also handed out an award for Most Anticipated Game of 2023 and Beyond with Hogwarts Legacy winning the vote. A somewhat surprising result as even though Wolverine, which doesn't have a launch window much less a release date, made the top four, Spider-Man 2, which has now been confirmed to be here by the fall of 2023, isn't in there at all. Might be time to drop a new trailer to up the hype for it.
