February is Black History Month, a time when people from the US and Canada remember the important contributions Black people have made to modern society despite centuries of ongoing discrimination. To observe the month-long event, Humble is offering a new bundle of eight games that celebrate Black creatives and characters from throughout gaming history.
Humble's Black History Month: Celebrating Black Creators & Characters Bundle is available now for the low price of $10 USD, although like all Humble Bundles, you can offer to pay more. All proceeds go to Gameheads, an organization that helps low-income youth of color succeed in the video game industry.
The games themselves either feature Black protagonists, such as Mafia 3: Definitive Edition, Shadow Man Remastered, and Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn, or they were made by Black developers, such as Interabang Entertainment's Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Brawl, Strange Scaffold's An Airport for Aliens Currently Run by Dogs, or Decoy Games Swimsanity.
Of particular note is Semblance, an indie puzzle platformer from Nyamakop, a South African studio that asked how a platformer changes if the player could change the platforms. Everything in Semblance, from the hardwood trees to the soft loam soil, can move and deform, going from impassable terrain to a bouncing trampoline in moments. Or you can move the floor to tilt a laser or squish yourself down to move through tight spaces.
Humble also mentioned that it plans to bring a book bundle later this month that supports the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, "a legal organization fighting for racial justice" and "committed to defending and advancing the full dignity and citizenship of Black people in America." Humble has long supported the NAACP, so keep an eye out for that bundle to drop soon.
