At The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley showed off more of CD Projekt Red's eagely awaited expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. A new trailer for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty DLC revealed one of its stars, in the recognisable voice and face of an in-game character. The British actor and Luther star has since said a little more about the upcoming expansion.
Phantom Liberty is a Cyberpunk 2077 DLC that is scheduled to launch on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC sometime in 2023. Yes, the expansion will skip the previous gen so PS4 and Xbox One players will miss out. Phantom Liberty will be a story driven "spy-thriller expansion" for CD Projekt Red's sci-fi RPG. Players will be exploring a brand new area of Night City in the DLC and Elba's character will there alongside as he plays a New United States of America FIA Agent Solomon Reed.
Phantom Liberty will see players on "an impossible mission of espionage and survival" and while story details beyond this vague description are short on the ground, Elba suggests the storyline and plot will be something players will be able to get really immersed in (thanks Gamesradar).
Taking to the Twitter, where the actor and musician (he likes to DJ) has some three million followers, Elba commented in a quote tweet of CD Projekt Red's tweet about Phantom Liberty. As you can see, he thinks it is the "deepest game narrative ever".
In reply, the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account commented: "Glad to have you with us [yellow heart]". The developer's global PR director, Radek, also replied with a gif from the game cheersing some beer bottles.
It's not the first big actor-ly get for CDPR of course since Keeanu Reeves was enlisted for the original game, voicing and providing the character model for Johnny Silverhand. Meanwhile, the cross media expansion of the series will continue, the Polish developer has revealed this year, following on from the success of the Netflix anime adaptation Cyberpunk Edgerunners. The show helped surge player counts for the game but it missed out on winning Best Adaptation at The Game Awards, with Arcane taking the accolade.
