Indiana Jones 5 Wraps Filming

Indiana Jones has completed filming, according to both the movie’s producer Frank Marshall and director James Mangold. Marshall shared a simple, “That’s a wrap!” message on Twitter along with a photo of an Indiana Jones cap. Mangold, meanwhile, simply posted a still image from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

First announced way back in 2016 and initially set to premiere in 2019, Indiana Jones 5 has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic which delayed filming far further than Disney had ever anticipated. The film’s cast wasn’t even fully formed until the first half of 2021, with Mads Mikkelsen signing on in an undisclosed role. Phoebe Waller-Bridge will play the unknown female lead, while Harrison Ford is set to reprise his role as Indiana Jones yet again, and quite probably for the last time.

This is the first Indiana Jones which won’t be directed by Steven Spielberg. Disputes over the script reportedly led Spielberg to pass the baton to Mangold, best known for directing Ford v. Ferrari and Logan. Spielberg is still listed as a producer, however, and has promised the series will continue even after Harrison Ford’s retirement.

Beyond the names, we know very little about what Indiana Jones 5 is going to be about. We don't even know a working title as yet. The movie was shot in locations around the USA, UK, Italy, and Morocco, and the premiere date is set for June 30, 2023. That gives Disney's editors plenty of time to throw something together.

The delay is likely due to the ongoing pandemic, which seems to be winding down and might even just be endemic by the time 2023 rolls around. Fingers crossed.

And before we forget, there's also an Indiana Jones video game currently in production with MachineGames. Previously thought to be a multi-platform title, the Microsoft/Bethesda merger likely means that the game will be Xbox exclusive when it arrives, whenever that might be. Production for the tie-in video game is well underway, although we have no time frame for an eventual release.
