Kirby and The Forgotten Land launches on Switch later this month as Nintendo marches on into what is shaping up to be a pretty busy 2022 for the company. On top of the handful of trailers we've already seen for the games, Switch owners can now play the first part of the game via a free demo available through the Nintendo eShop. The demo lets you traverse the first three levels and ends with the game's first boss fight.
Very minor spoiler alert if you do plan on playing through The Forgotten Land's demo, once you finish it, which doesn't take long, you are shown some more of what's to come in the full game. Most of it is stuff that you will have already seen if you've seen the trailers. However, we also get out first look at King Dedede in the game, and he looks a little different.
The villain-turned-ally-turned-villain-again has re-lost his neck. Dedede's jacket also looks a lot more elaborate with red feathers sticking out of it, and his mallet is looking a lot more worn and far less pristine than it has done in the past. If you don't want to play through the demo to get a good look at Dedede, you can check out his render from The Forgotten Land in the tweet below.
Kirby fans are certainly no strangers to Dedede's design being overhauled. It feels like he is massively changed in almost every game. That's partly due to technical and graphical advances, of course. There's not much you can do to make a pink puffball look better and better with each new console. King Dedede, on the other hand, has elements that can be tweaked and improved upon.
The Forgotten Land's demo also allows you to get to grips with Kirby's new mouthful mode. During a cinematic in the game's first level, Kirby accidentally discovers her can inhale an entire car. You then proceed to use it to turn into traffic cones and vending machines, with a lot more items to be swallowed in the full game. Kirby and The Forgotten Land launches on Nintendo Switch March 25, 2022, and the demo is available now.
