From what we've seen in the trailers and previews, Firaxis is aiming to bring the production quality of the MCU into Midnight Suns. We can primarily see this in the game's attack animations, where iconic Marvel characters perform spectacular moves involving mystical serpents and setting the sky ablaze, among other things. However, much like the MCU, it appears there's going to be a lot of chatter in the game as well.
Building up to its December 2 launch, the Midnight Suns team put out a special message to talk about its journey (thanks, PC Gamer). It features Firaxis employees talking about why the game is so special to them, and that they can't wait for the world to try it out. However, there was an interesting bit of information we got from one of the messages.
"I think we ended up with something like 65,000 lines of voiced dialogue, over two hours of cinematics, and, gosh, more branching choices than you could imagine," said lead engineer Will Miller. Those are, to put it mildly, a lot of lines. While the game does have a fully fleshed out story, with cutscenes and interactions at the headquarters, 65,000 is still a lot. This probably also includes lines that characters say while attacking, and perhaps even the worst aspect of the MCU – quips.
Another fun little thing we learned came from senior technical animator, Johan Stewart. When he was tasked with animating Ghost Rider's chains, he was told not to worry too much about it, as they'd probably be too complicated and might even get cut entirely. However, this only motivated Stewart, who apparently told management, "You can have these chains back when you pry them from my cold dead hands." And from what we've seen so far, Ghost Rider seems to be using that chain in all sorts of cool ways.
If 65,000 lines of dialogue are a lot, just wait till 2023, when Deadpool gets added to the Midnight Suns roster. The Merc with a Mouth will undoubtedly be bringing his trademark quips and banter in the post-launch DLC.
