Recently, the Sims community has been overrun with Simmers turning their attention to a new game, Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The popular Nintendo Switch title is a sandbox life simulator, and as such, has a huge appeal for Sims fans. However, with Switch’s being expensive and in short supply, not everyone who wants to play can. Now, well-known Sims modder, KawaiiStacie, best known for her Slice of Life and Explore mods, has come to the rescue with an Animal Crossing mod for The Sims 4.
The Animal Crossing mod is a custom aspiration that links to a challenge Stacie has written. It requires the base game and Outdoor Retreat. The requirement for Outdoor Retreat is to give players access to tents and bug collecting, both of which are big parts of the Animal Crossing experience.
You’ll need to move onto an empty plot to start the challenge. For a more authentic island experience, players with Island Living can move onto the empty island plot in Mua Pel’Am on Sulani.
Players starting out will need a tent, grill, picnic table, stereo, bush toilet, outdoor shower, mailbox, and woodworking table. These items meet sims basic needs while also emulating the early living in a tent with a lamp and a radio situation you start with in New Horizons.
The aspiration comes in four parts and focuses on tasks that you need to do in Animal Crossing. The first level is based around building up a basic starter area, befriending some locals, and settling in. You’ll also need to pay off Tom Nook for your starter essentials. It then moves on to tasks focused on bug collecting, fishing, crafting, and socializing. You’ll also need to start collecting things for a future museum.
When you look at it closely, the two games mesh very well together. Animal Crossing is about socializing, bug collecting, crafting, fishing, and building. These are all tasks you can replicate in The Sims 4. If you chose a large lot, you could also build a small village using the roommate system to move in other sims and also making your home and museum.
Some Simmers have already gone all out on Animal Crossing builds. The article header is from Sims 4 Creations village, and the image above is from SatiSim’s village. There’s a lot of inspiration out there and this mod is a great start for anyone wanting to get an Animal Crossing experience in The Sims 4.
