Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX offers two classic PlayStation titles that allow you to raise monsters on your ranch that you can then enter into tournaments. While you start off with a decent number of available monster types that you can generate at the Shrine using the digital CD database, other monster breeds must be unlocked before you can get them.

In Monster Rancher 2, one monster that you'll encounter in higher-ranked tournaments but can't generate yourself until you unlock it is Ducken. We're going to cover exactly how to unlock this adorable little monster right here.

How To Get The Strong Glue And Quack Doll

Get Your First Fun Can

Like many monsters in the game, Ducken needs a specific secret seasoning ingredient item to unlock — the Quack Doll. However, this involves a little more work than some of the other monster items.

First of all, you need to get five diamond marks. These are promontial stickers on the inside of cup jelly lids, so it's random as to when you will get one. Keep feeding your monster cup jellies until you get five, at which point Colt will send them away for a Fun Can.

The Can will arrive a day or two later via the postman. Colt will then build the doll included in the fun can and you can choose to either give it to your monster or sell it. However, this is not the doll you need for combining.

Do The Torles Expedition

To unlock the Torles Expedition, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Monster has 50+ Fame
  • Monster is Rank C or above
  • Monster has 210+ Life
  • You have previously completed the first Kawrea Expedition

If you fulfil all of the above, Rovest will appear in the first week of February and invite you to the Torles Mountain. You must be on the ranch to receive this invitation, this means resting or training on the fourth week of January. If your monster is injured or doing Errantry during this time, you will miss the opportunity and have to wait until the following year.

Note: We highly recommend saving before this date so you can go back and retry if you fail.

Expedition Notes:

  • Your monster's "Energy" will deplete as it moves around the map, removes obstacles, or searches points of interest. If your monster hits -10 Energy Points before reaching camp, it will KO — the Expedition will be a failure and your monster's lifespan will be shortened.
  • The map layout is always the same here, but once you start searching points of interest, it's random which rooms your monster will choose to go in — this is why we recommend saving beforehand. The higher your monster's INT, the better it is at finding items.

You need to head to a specific point of interest to find the Strong Glue.

Directions to the trees from the entrance are as follows:

  • From the entrance, continue forwards ignoring the first crossroads. Go straight on until (X:0, Y:4)
  • Turn right and move forward until (X:5, Y:4)
  • Turn left and head towards the tree.

Keep sending your monster to search the tree until you get the Strong Glue. There is a chance that the glue will not appear at all and you could potentially collect all items from the tree and not find the glue. Reload your save and try again if this happens.

This will likely take you multiple attempts and plenty of save reloads, hence why we recommend saving beforehand. You ideally want to get the Strong Glue and still have enough energy to make it back to camp without your monster KO'ing. However, if you get the Strong Glue and your monster KOs, you will still get to keep the item at the end of the expedition. Fortunately, this point of interest is closer to camp than others, so you don't need to save as much energy to return.

Note: We recommend having a monster with 350+ INT to get the Strong Glue and even then you'll probably still have to reload your save file a few times.

Get Another Fun Can

Now you have the Strong Glue, you need to get another five diamond marks from feeding your monster cup jellies so that you can get another Fun Can. Once it arrives, you can build the Quack Doll using the glue. This is the doll you need for combining!

How To Unlock Ducken

Once you have the Quack Doll, head into Town and go to the Lab to combine any two monsters. Use the Quack Doll as the secret seasoning ingredient and you will be guaranteed a Ducken as a result.

Note: Once you have unlocked Ducken, you can also generate it from CDs at the Shrine. We cover CDs that generate Ducken and its variants here.
