Nintendo Switch Online members this month will be able to play one of the best SNES games ever. The House of Mario has revealed three new titles heading to the SNES and NES collections for the Switch Online service. And there’s one standout addition which is one of the best games from the 16 Bit era.
- Surprise! Nintendo Switch will be getting a PS5 and Xbox Series X game
This month the Switch Online’s selection of SNES games will be getting bolstered by Rare’s classic title Donkey Kong Country.
The iconic platformer was a groundbreaking addition to the SNES library when it was released back in 1994.
The 3D models that Rare managed to produce on the SNES, which like the Mega Drive was more known for 2D sprite-based graphics, were jaw-dropping at the time.
Coupled with ingenious level design that offered plenty of replay value, brilliant co-op play, and an incredible soundtrack and you’ve got a bonafide SNES classic.
Plus, mine carts!
And now those who fell in love with Donkey Kong Country back in the 90s, and those new to it, will get to play it all over again thanks to the Switch Online’s retro library.
Ninty has revealed that on Wednesday July 15 Donkey Kong Country will be getting added to the Switch Online’s SNES collection.
DKC will also be joined by Natsume Championship Wrestling for the SNES and NES title The Immortal.
The news was revealed by the Nintendo UK Twitter who posted: “More Super NES and NES games will arrive on 15th July for Nintendo Switch Online members, including the 1994 classic Donkey Kong Country!”
Here are more details, taken from the official Nintendo website, on the two new SNES games heading to Switch Online…
DONKEY KONG COUNTRY
In 1994, at the dawn of 32-bit consoles, one game blew away the competition with its pre-rendered 3D graphics, cartoon-quality animation and atmospheric music – on the 16-bit Super Nintendo!
Donkey Kong Country breathed new life into the character of Donkey Kong, and introduced gamers to Diddy Kong, Cranky Kong, and bad guys the Kremlings.
Join DK and Diddy on a quest to recover their stolen banana hoard. Traverse more than 30 challenging levels, take a ride on animal buddies and survive the madcap mine cart sequences. You’d be bananas not to play Donkey Kong Country!
NATSUME CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING
Get ready to grapple with 12 outrageous wrestlers and bring on the beat down! Wield the massive power of Asteroid, the lightning-fast strikes of Viper, the underhanded attacks of Phantom and many more kings of the ring!
With its robust grappling system and more than 50 moves to master, Natsume Championship Wrestling delivers some of the deepest and most realistic wrestling action of the 16-bit era! Test your might against the crafty AI, or compete with up to four players in exhibition, tag team, and round robin matches.
