MultiVersus Delays Season 1

MultiVersus hasn't even technically launched yet as it is still in its open beta but has already enjoyed a massive amount of success and millions of people have checked it out. However, just five days before its first season was supposed to begin, Warner Bros. and Player First Games have revealed it has been delayed.

The unexpected announcement was made through the official MultiVersus Twitter account via a short series of tweets late on Wednesday night. “We want to let everyone know that we are delaying the start of Season 1 & the release of Morty to a later date,” the second of the three tweets reads. Morty was supposed to be added to the roster to coincide with the start of season one, but since that now isn't happening as planned, players will also have to wait a little longer for Morty.

As for a new start date for season one, that currently remains unclear. “We’ll let you know the timing as soon as we can. We appreciate your patience & enthusiasm and look forward to unveiling Season 1 very soon,” the final tweet reads. The reason for the delay hasn't been revealed, and players have been voicing both their frustration and their understanding in the replies.

Some players have complained, citing that the beta's limited battle pass has left them with nothing to do and they may stop playing until a new date for season one's start has been confirmed. Others are willing to be patient, comparing the situation to Halo Infinite. Infinite's long seasons have seen players leave the game after finishing a battle pass, and some claim the pass's unlockables don't offer many incentives to finish it in the first place. No one wants the same for MultiVersus, especially its creators.

The timing of the delay is somewhat curious, as it comes just hours after Warner Bros. revealed more details about season one's battle pass. That the battle pass will have 50 tiers and players will be able to unlock its content even after it expires were among those new details. It's not all bad news for MultiVersus players. Even though season one has been delayed, Wonder Woman will still be getting buffed after Evo this weekend.
