League of Legends has a new, terrifying champion. Runeterra’s terrifying Void faction will soon be united under the leadership of Bel’Veth, the Void Empress.
Bel’Veth’s name comes from the city she consumed upon her arrival. Not only did she devour the port city of Belveth, she also ate much of the surrounding ocean and ecosystem. The history, memories, and information of all its residents, both human and not, now empowers Bel’Veth with knowledge of Runeterra’s denizens, added to her vast library that spans eons.
Known as the “God of Oblivion” to the ancient Shurmans, Bel’Veth promises to send League of Legends into a terrifying new chapter by unifying the disparate Void entities that populate Runeterra. In several teaser videos, Bel’Veth is seen reaching out to both Vel’Koz and Malzahar to alert them of her arrival and summon them for her bidding. Malzahar, the prophet of the Void, seems particularly pleased at finally being vindicated in his beliefs.
In her introductory trailer, Bel’Veth also exerts her dominance over Kai’Sa, who’s parasitic carapace is born of the Void. Powerless to stop Bel’Veth, the Void empress casually informs Kai’Sa of her plan to consume all of Runeterra and remake it in her own twisted image. Kai’Sa then enters into an uneasy alliance to prevent the Watchers from escaping their prison and ending all existence. There’s always a bigger fish, as they say.
It’s hard to say what abilities Bel’Veth will have in League of Legends, but we should note that her human form is just a disguise for her true form: a huge, grotesque monster with tentacles, talons, and teeth. Expect whatever she does to be both violent and deadly.
In other League news, Legends of Runeterra recently received its Worldwalker expansion introducing four new champions to collect, and League of Legends player Biofrost called for greater inclusivity in the professional LoL community in his coming-out announcement.
