Overwatch developer Blizzard is getting ready to hold a double XP event for Overwatch 2. The Overwatch 2 double XP weekend has an October 21 release date, and a 7pm BST UK launch time. The double XP event ends just a few days later on October 24. As part of the weekend event, players will earn twice the experience during matches. It’s a great way to level up the Battle Pass and earn additional rewards.
The double XP event ends just 24-hours before the start of the Halloween Terror celebrations.
Assuming it’s like previous Halloween Terror events, fans can expect a limited-time game mode to make an appearance.
Junkenstein’s Revenge pits a team of characters against Dr Junkenstein and his army of zombies.
Blizzard typically decorates various maps, giving the likes of Hollywood and Eichenwalde a haunted makeover.
Needless to say, the Halloween Terror event launches with a variety of exclusive skins, not to mention a major Overwatch 2 update.
The Overwatch 2 update will launch on October 25, and will include a variety of gameplay tweaks, balance updates and bug fixes.
Express Online will post patch notes when the download drops on October 25.
Despite one or two server issues at launch, Overwatch 2 has been a big success since going free-to-play.
In fact, according to a recent Blizzard post on Twitter, the game has been played by more than 25 million people.
The popularity probably has something to do with the fact that Overwatch 2 is free-to-play, and utilises a season-based Battle Pass system similar to Fortnite.
Season One runs from October 4 until December 5. It adds three new heroes, six new maps, a brand new game mode and a Battle Pass.
The Battle Pass includes a more than 30 new skins (including a Mythic skin), as well as new emotes, weapon charms, poses and lots more. Some items will be available for free, while others will only be available to owners of the Premium Battle Pass.
