Planet Zoo: 11 Most Popular Animal Attractions (& 4 Least Popular)

There are so many animals that were included in Planet Zoo, but some are better than others. All animals have a rating that tells you how popular they will be in your zoo. There are some that rise above the rest, and others that might be considered a bit of a letdown.

Everyone hopes to buy animals with the highest ratings, which is why we have laid out the best and the worst animals for attracting guests. This will help you determine where you should start, and what animals you want to avoid. Keep reading to learn about the five most popular animal attractions in Planet Zoo and the five least popular!

Updated February 11th, 2021, By Helen Ashcroft: Now Planet Zoo is more established as a game, we’ve been able to better assess the appeal of different animals and work out what affects their appeal score. There have also been several DLC packs that have added South American, Australian, Arctic, and Aquatic animals to the game, offering more choice than ever.

Animals that are younger and have stronger genetics will have a higher appeal rating and command a higher price. Each species actually has a base appeal for an average adult, and the animal’s individual statistics can alter this in either direction. As a result, we’ve updated this list to include the base appeal of each animal. We’ve also added more appealing animals, including some from the DLC packs.

15 Popular: Bengal And Siberian Tigers – Appeal 5625

While these two tigers come from different parts of the world we’ve put them under the same header due to their identical appeal rating and similar statistics. Both Bengal and Siberian Tigers are endangered and prefer to live alone or in pairs.

If you are housing them you’ll require 705m² of space which they will happily laze around in. Tigers are a common sight in zoos and either of these options would make a great addition to your zoo. Just don’t try and put them together.

14 Popular: Cheetah – Appeal 5625

A vulnerable big cat, the Cheetah is a solid choice for any zoo but especially a starter zoo. They are cheap to feed and appealing to watch. As with many animals they require roughly 705m² of land for their habitat and enjoy the temperatures found in most zoos.

A Cheetah will live in a small group and breed easily, meaning you’ll have many young offspring to release into the wild and earn those conservation credits.

13 Least Popular: Greater Flamingo – Appeal 750

It really shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Greater Flamingo is sitting at under 1000 appeal rating. These birds repopulate like crazy and you’ll have a full exhibit in the blink of an eye. They do require you to have at least ten in an exhibit but you’ll soon go beyond that.

The official space requirement is 300m² with 125m² of water but you’ll want to increase this to account for the very easy breeding. Alternatively, you’ll need to apply contraception to one sex once you hit the desired number of flamingos.

While they are low appeal they are cheap to buy and the habitat looks nice so they can be a solid choice to increase the number of exhibits in your zoo.

12 Popular: Giant Panda – Appeal 5625

The Giant Panda will happily live alone or in a group. They are classed as vulnerable, partly due to their notorious difficulty with breeding. As a result of this,  Panda babies are incredibly appealing.

To keep them happy you’ll need over 900m² of space but the investment can be well worth it. They’ll bring in the crowds and if you get lucky with those babies, then you can sit back and watch the donations flood in.

11 Popular: Bonobo – Appeal 6000

The Bonobo comes from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and requires 780m² of space with 80m² of climbing area. They are an endangered species that will encourage visitors with their climbing antics.

With their long life expectancy, promiscuous mating system, and confidence around guests, you’ll soon have a thriving and exciting exhibit for guests to enjoy. Just make sure to keep numbers in check and be aware of inbreeding.

10 Least Popular: Indian Peafowl – Appeal 750

The Indian Peafowl is one of the most beautiful but annoying animals in the game. Like flamingos, they mate like crazy but beyond that, they also require a lot of care. They seem to get sick a lot and are generally quite fragile.

You can build a tiny and cheap exhibit for them, just 312m², and guests can even walk through it, meaning you can position it along a regular path. However, they are generally best avoided unless you really love them.

9 Popular: Indian Elephant – Appeal 6000

Indian Elephants are very similar to African Elephants in terms of breeding and herd size but they are physically smaller meaning they require less enclosure space at just 882m² with 67m² of water. They are also slightly less appealing, which reduces their value.

This makes them a cheaper investment than their African counterparts, both in terms of purchasing the elephants themselves and in terms of creating a suitable enclosure. However, despite being slightly less popular than some other species, they still draw huge crowds and hefty donations.

8 Popular: Western Chimpanzee – Appeal 6375

Unsurprisingly, several apes and monkeys appear on the popular animals’ list, likely due to their social natures and love of climbing and playing. The Western Chimpanzee is very much like the others, requiring the same 780m² of space with an 80m² climbing area.

They will enjoy larger groups but breed frequently so be careful of overcrowding. It’s also a great idea to research as much as you can about the first monkey or ape you purchase so you have access to the enrichment items they will all require.

7 Least Popular: Common Warthog – Appeal 750

The Common Warthog might be one of the least popular animals among guests, but they are great for players starting a new zoo. They are not pretty to look at and their habitat definitely smells, but their offspring are worth a decent amount of conservation credits.

They are much hardier than species like the Peafowl and still have a small space requirement. This makes the warthog the best choice for a cheap and cheerful exhibit that can be used to acquire babies to sell for conservation credits or cash.

6 Popular: Bornean Orangutan – Appeal 6375

Bornean Orangutans are critically endangered in the wild but are very popular among zoo guests. They are native to an island called Borneo, and the game hopes to educate you about their plight by giving them a high guest rating that has visitors flocking to donate.

They can be a bit tricky when it comes to their climbing needs since they require 120m² of climbing space in a 780m² enclosure, but they are well worth the hassle as guests flock to their habitat. They are fun to watch in the game as well as they climb the apparatuses you put up and entertain guests with their unique behaviors.

5 Popular: West African Lion – Appeal 6750

The West African Lion is another critically endangered species that is popular in the game, receiving some of the highest appeal ratings to be found. Lions are another zoo staple but it’s also important to raise awareness about them as poachers and habitat destruction ruin their way of life.

This is another great animal to have in your zoo as they require only 705m² of space, have a promiscuous mating system, and are happy in large herds. The only problem with this species is that their food costs quite a bit of money and you’ll need more space as the herd grows meaning the costs can ramp up.

4 Least Popular: Llama (South America Pack) – Appeal 750

Llamas can live in groups of up to 20 but are just as content in pairs. They are confident and social, being very safe around guests. They can fight frequently though if the group is larger, so watch out for this if you place them in your zoo.

Their appeal rating is low and they are only available with the South America DLC pack, so for most players, these will be a no go.

3 Popular: Polar Bear (Arctic Pack) – Appeal 6750

Polar Bears have one of the highest appeal ratings in the game but they also have a ridiculous 6000m² space requirement and a need for 2000m² of water. They live in pairs or solitude and are difficult to breed.

While Polar Bears will no doubt pull in guests in droves, the space and cost required to house them correctly are prohibitive for most zoos. They are also only available to those with the Arctic DLC pack.

2 Popular: Western Lowland Gorilla – Appeal 6750

The Western Lowland Gorilla is one of the most popular animals among guests in this particular game and is also critically endangered. As a result, these gorillas come with a high price tag but breeding them has a large conservation credit reward.

The guests love this creature, and it’s easy to see why. The stunning silverbacks and their mates prefer to live in small groups of evenly split sexes. In terms of space, their requirements are just 780m² with 40m² of climbing space, meaning they aren’t too difficult to accommodate.

1 Popular: African Elephant – Appeal 6750

The African Elephant comes straight from Sub Saharan Africa. They can live in groups of up to 15 and their recognizable beauty makes them a strong zoo staple. They are also a polygynous species so males may mate with multiple females, adding plenty of babies to your herd.

However, due to their size and socialization requirements, elephants also need a huge enclosure of an enormous 2151m² with 148m² of water. This combined with the cost to purchase and feed them makes them a later investment. They’ll bring in guests and donations but the setup costs are as big as the elephants themselves.
