The Pokemon Unite All-Rounder role seems like a basic one. They do everything, after all. How complicated could it be? The answer is “rather more than you might expect.” While All-Rounders can excel in almost any condition, they also require a higher level of flexibility and focus compared to other roles.
All-Rounders will likely end up in every lane and the Jungle throughout the match, as the team’s needs change over time. It means choosing a broad moveset and being open to changing your plans at the last second, though once you grow comfortable with the role, it can be one of Pokemon Unite’s most rewarding.
What Is An All-Rounder?
All-Rounders in Pokemon Unite are pretty much what it says on the label. In general, they’re as at home in an offensive role as they are in a defensive one, and some even have support abilities. They’re tanky enough to serve as a defender if need be and have a wide range of attack moves to help support the main Attacker or even take that role themselves for a time.
Despite the broad label, you’ll find that each All-Rounder has its own niche suited for specific playstyles. Lucario, for example, is more focused on mobility and powerful one-off attacks, while Tsareena can stun enemies and self-heal, and Machamp sweeps the field with its buffs.
Before deciding on an All-Rounder for online play, make sure to check their skills and consider playing a few training rounds and offline matches before purchasing, to get a feel for how they play.
What Do All-Rounders Do In Pokemon Unite?
All-Rounders are expected to do a bit of everything. That means it takes some practice to get used to and is usually not recommended for beginners, but once you get the hang of it, it’s one of the more rewarding roles.
For example, if you’re supporting the team’s attacker in the top lane, but notice the bottom lane can’t quite manage, you’ll need to switch lanes and lend a hand in a defensive role. Prioritize moves that keep opponents at bay or deal damage in a wide area of effect. If the attacker is about to face multiple opponents, help out by focusing on whichever foe the attacker isn’t targeting. It’s a more effective use of your abilities and helps keep everyone from getting overwhelmed.
If it seems like there’s no urgent need for you at the time, you still have a few options. Head to the Jungle and take down Ludicolo and Bouffalant to buff your Pokémon up whatever comes next. Keep an eye on the top and bottom parts of the map for Dreadnaw and Rotom to spawn, so you can, ideally, get there before the opposing team and secure some excellent buffs for your team.
All-Rounder Pokemon And How They Might Play
Pokemon Unite has eight All-Rounders as of April 2022.
- Lucario
- Tsareena
- Garchomp
- Dragonite
- Azumarill
- Machamp
- Aegislash
- Charizard
As mentioned, each All-Rounder has a unique playstyle. Tsareena, one of the best All-Rounders, uses strong offense to excel in both attacker and defender roles. Trop Kick keeps foes at bay and, thanks to her special ability, heals Tsareena, while Stomp deals high damage and can potentially stun foes. That combination, plus high mobility, makes Tsareena ideal for sneaking behind enemy formations to attack the rear guard or just decimating foes in general.
Charizard is slower and less versatile, but while that means sneaking is out of the question, it has something most All-Rounders lack: range. Its fire attacks reach foes that even Tsareena’s Trop Kick would have trouble touching, and Charizard’s Unite move crushes enemies and pushes them back. Charizard won’t survive on the frontlines, but Flamethrower and Fire Blast mean it doesn’t have to.
The others fall somewhere in between. Lucario is swift and deadly, while Garchomp and Dragonite rely on overwhelming power. Azumarill and Aegislash are a bit more unique. Azumarill is best in single combat where its critical hit rate shines, while Aegislash's stance determines whether you'll focus on offense or defense.
Best Items For All-Rounders
Given the All-Rounder’s flexibility, you have a wider variety of viable item choices depending on how you prefer to play, but there are a few solid choices that work with almost every All-Rounder.
- Muscle Band
The Muscle Band increases your attack power and, equally as important, your attack speed. Whatever the situation, your All-Rounder will always benefit from more power and speed, so this is a good choice to start with.
- Focus Band
The Focus Band has several functions. The main one is boosting your defense and special defense, but it also restores a small amount of HP once your health drops to a certain threshold. The emphasis is on “small” for the amount restored, but every bit helps. If you’d rather use this slot for something else, Leftovers are another good option for All-Rounders. They restore HP outside of combat, which is handy for when you’re traveling between lanes.
- Rocky Helmet
The Rocky Helmet is typically a top choice for defenders, but since the All-Rounder is often in that role, it works for them as well. Rocky Helmet raises the wearer’s HP and defense, but after you’re attacked a few times, it also damages your foe by a set percentage of their max HP.
- Buddy Barrier
This is a popular choice for most roles, and it works for the All-Rounder as well. The Buddy Barrier raises your max HP substantially and, after you use a Unite move, it grants a shield to nearby allies with low health.
