Ubisoft has officially announced a remake of The Sands Of Time and while the graphics still look a bit suspect the rest of it seems promising.

It wasn’t a surprise, given Ubisoft accidentally leaked it earlier in the day, but a remake of Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time is now officially a thing that is happening.

When images first appeared on Ubisoft’s Russian website the graphics quickly became a subject of internet mockery, especially the faces of the characters. Which to be honest, still look pretty bad in the full trailer.

The rest of it seems okay though and it’s apparently being rebuilt ‘from the ground up’ for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. It’s out on 21 January, but oddly there’s no mention of next gen versions.

The remake will feature ‘completely rebuilt textures, contrasted lightings for strong atmospheres, and new cinematics’, which all sounds good.

There’ll also be ‘modernised combat mechanics’, which could go either way.

The Prince’s original voice actor, Yuri Lowenthal, will be coming back, and there’ll be, ‘enhanced voices, sounds, parkour animations, and soundtrack’.

You’ll also be able to unlock a version of the original game made for the Mac in 1992. (The original version was made for the Apple II in 1989 but the Mac version has much better graphics.)

Also, if you pre-order you can also get versions of the original outfit, weapons, and a retro screen filter. Although whether that means retro 1989 or retro 1992 we’re not sure.
