PS5 restocks hosted by Argos, GAME, Currys or Amazon UK ended in December 2021, but the good news is that more are on the way.

Stock trackers have warned that the big PS5 restock won’t be happening over the coming days, with the second half of January 2022 being touted as when UK retailers will start receiving the big stock updates.

According to PS5 Stock UK on Twitter – a reliable source of news on the latest stock drops – this is due to the busy December market.

In a new post shared online, PS5 Stock UK revealed why gamers might have to wait longer than usual for a big stock drop from the likes of Argos, telling its followers:

“PS5 stock has been quiet in the UK recently; however, retailers are next expected to restock the console during the 2nd half of January 2022.

“The UK has seen an unprecedented amount of PS5 restocks during Q4 2021 as Sony pushed console production in time for Christmas, with some major retailers remaining in stock for more than 24hrs. This led to PS5 restocks drastically decreasing for Q1 2022.”

So does this mean that 2022 is going to be a worse year to try and buy a PlayStation 5 console?

Well, there are promising signs that more of the most important items will be available to Sony and Microsoft when it comes to this year’s holiday season.

The latest update on the situation was shared by AMD CEO Lisa Su, with the company being one of the key component suppliers for the PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

The good news is that AMD is planning on ramping up its own supply chain, which can only be good news for those still trying to buy a PS5.

PS5: Sony unveil pricing for PlayStation 5 console

In a new statement shared during an AMD investment meeting, Lisa Su commented: “Well, I think — first of all, I think the console business, this console cycle and all when you look at it in totality, has been amazing.

“I mean if you think about the strength of the cycle, now we’re sort of deep into the second year and the fact that the demand is so high. I mean we’ve been shipping a lot of product.

“So the fact that the demand is still high says something about just sort of the product capability that’s been captured by both Microsoft and Sony in this console cycle. We’re continuing to ramp up production. We expect 2022 to be another strong growth year for consoles.

“If you look at the typical console cycle, the peak year is actually the fourth year typically. And so you would expect maybe 2023 would be the peak year.”

Adding: “But to the overall point is, look, it’s a great platform. We love the fact that we have so many users that are using AMD technology on the console platform and we’ll continue to ramp up supply. And from a seasonality standpoint, yes, you’re right. Seasonality does become more muted in this environment until we get to sort of a more normalized environment.”

The ramping up supply of critical parts could mean more consoles hitting the market in 2022, although fans will have to wait and see if this does come to bear fruit.
