Psychic VR Lab Opens Applications for NEWVIEW Awards 2020

For the past couple of years, Psychic VR Lab has run its NEWVIEW Awards to not only showcase the creative talent using its virtual reality (VR) software Styly but to also encourage new creators. The company has recently announced that applications are now open for this year’s awards, giving you a couple of months to enter a piece.

Parameters for the NEWVIEW Awards 2020 are simple, anyone can enter for free, individuals, groups and companies, even multiple entries are permitted. All you need to do is create an immersive VR or AR project using Styly based around the fields of fashion, art and culture. Creators can use additional tools such as videogame engines but all the submissions must use Styly.

The awards have seen some pretty experimental projects from comic strips and music videos to photogrammetry recreations of destroyed locations. 2019’s Gold Prize went to Takkun Museum where the artist combined both memories and artworks of his son since birth. That year saw 254 works from 8 countries entered.

2020 will be unique in the fact that it’ll be the first time AR content will feature. This is thanks to an update rolled out last month for Styly. Just like many other events and awards in 2020, this year won’t feature a physical show in Tokyo, Japan, instead taking place entirely online.

Applications for the NEWVIEW Awards 2020 are now being accepted until 2nd November 2020. 25 finalists will then be selected with the online exhibition and winners announced in December. Whoever wins the Gold Prize will take home $20,000 USD whilst three Silver Prize winners will be awarded $5,000 each. One piece will also be awarded the PARCO Prize, being able to work with PARCO and exhibit works in PARCO SHIBUYA.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of NEWVIEW Awards 2020, reporting back with the latest updates.
