The new game from the makers of Batman: Arkham Knight is a four-player co-op game set in Metropolis where you have to kill Superman.
Just as they promised, Rocksteady has unveiled their brand-new game as Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, a one to four-player game that is set in the original Arkham-verse.
Unlike the Gotham Knights reveal no gameplay footage was shown, just a CGI trailer featuring Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and King Shark.
The game will be set in Metropolis, which seems to have been invaded by Brainiac, who has an army of cyborgs and seems to have corrupted or mind-controlled Superman.
To be honest, the trope of an evil Superman is getting a bit tired now, especially after the Injustice games, but given the subtitle presumably the rest of the Justice League have also been taken over – although nobody else was shown.
It’s also implied that the four named characters are the only playable ones in the game, which seems a surprisingly small roster, especially given the footage for the new Suicide Squad movie, which features all manner of obscure supervillains.
It’s long been assumed that Suicide Squad is a game as a service title, similar to Marvel’s Avengers, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet and it’s likely the game has undergone a lot of design changes since loot boxes fell out of fashion in the last couple of years.
British developer Rocksteady did emphasise that you could play the whole game in single-player though, switching characters whenever you want, so that’s encouraging at least.
The gameplay was described as similar to the existing Batman: Arkham third person action but where you also get to use guns – which seems a bit odd for characters called Captain Boomerang and King Shark.
To be honest, we’re not convinced yet but perhaps once we see some actual gameplay it’ll all start to start to make more sense.
