Sony Planning PS5 Event For Next Week – Report

Sony is reportedly planning to host a digital event for its next-generation console, the PlayStation 5, next week. Sources close to the matter say the event will take place on June 3, but also that it could be subject to change.

The report, published by Bloomberg and corroborated by VentureBeat, states that Sony won’t reveal every aspect of the new console in the first presentation for it, with the company planning additional events throughout the coming months. There is no confirmation on whether the presentation will focus on hardware or software, or a combination of both.

Sony has detailed the technical aspect of the PS5, first announcing its internals during a recorded GDC presentation delivered by Mark Cerny. Since then it has revealed the PS5 DualSense controller and featured the first Unreal Engine 5 demo running on its next-gen hardware. The PS5 is still scheduled to launch during the holiday season of 2020, with Sony not expecting the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic to change that.

Microsoft has taken a different approach to Sony, first revealing the Xbox Series X during The Game Awards last year. Since then the company has begun a series of monthly digital events to showcase games for their next gen console, with the first Xbox 20/20 taking place earlier this month. Microsoft is expected to show off its first exclusives during its July stream.
