Nintendo has confirmed that Splatoon 3 will launch September 9.
It's been a bit of a dry spell for Splatoon fans over the past few months, as Nintendo has remained pretty quiet about the third game, only showing a brief trailer for it at the last Nintendo Direct and then saying that more details would come in the future. The wait for news is over though, as Nintendo has now confirmed that Splatoon 3 will launch September 9.
The announcement was made alongside a brand new trailer for the game, which showcased an extended look at Turf War. The gameplay footage shows that Inklings will now enter the map in a slightly different way and seem to be able to choose where they land. A new special weapon is also shown, one that looks like it fires three grenade-like splashes. We also get to see a vacuum cleaner special that sucks in Inklings and shoots them back out, as well as another special that gives the player a spider-like mech to shoot from.
Some other cool details shown in the gameplay footage include a better look at the bow and arrow weapon and a look at a melee-focused Inkling that uses a paintbrush and grappling hook to get around the map and take out other Inklings. We've seen some of these features in previous trailers, but this is our best look yet. The rest of the gameplay is pretty standard Splatoon fare, although the UI has been given a bit of an update.
The announcement trailer was accompanied by a new image, that looks to be the key art for Splatoon 3, as it's very similar to what was used for Splatoon and Splatoon 2. The key art here focuses on yellow versus blue in a desert environment, similar to what we've been shown in previous trailers. Just like the dual squelchers were the focus of Splatoon 2's key art, the bow and arrow weapon seems to be the big new weapon for Splatoon 3.
