EA’s single-player Star Wars game released just over a year ago and its continued success all but guarantees more titles like it.
It’s hard to believe that it’s only been a year since Star Was Jedi: Fallen Order released, but then 2020 has been a bit unusual – to say the least.
In that time, the single-player game has continued to be a success for publisher EA. In fact, it’s been one of the best-selling games in America over the last 12 months.
This comes from industry analyst Mat Piscatella, who reveals that Fallen Order stands at number two in the charts, only losing out to Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare.
While this is good news for EA and fans of the game, it’s rather ironic considering EA’s stance on single-player games in the recent past.
Only a few years ago, the publisher cancelled a linear single-player Star Wars game from Visceral Games (the Dead Space studio), claiming that that sort of game isn’t popular anymore.
When talking about the cancelled game EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen said, in 2017, that the game (which was being overseen by Uncharted creator Amy Hennig and was similar in style) was a, ‘much more linear game, that people don’t like as much today as they did five years ago or 10 years ago.’
Fallen Order’s initial success seemed to guarantee that a sequel would happen, which has since been confirmed to be in development.
With any luck, EA will consider more single-player Star Wars games (maybe a Star Wars: Bounty Hunter revival with the Mandalorian or something?) or even just more single-player games in general, now it’s been proven that there’s a very large market for them.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It will release for Stadia on November 24.
