Street Fighter 5 might have received its last DLC character last November, but that doesn’t mean Capcom is done with it. Capcom just announced that Street Fighter 5 will receive its “definitive update” next week with tweaks to character balance, some new screen filters, new cosmetics, and some remixed in-game music themes.
The balance changes weren’t really explained at all by Capcom, although if the sheer volume of characters implied in the trailer is any indication, there might be a monumental shift in the meta coming.
As for those filters, you’ll get a cel-shading filter and a pixel filter. Honestly, the cel-shading thing doesn’t really do a whole lot for Street Fighter 5 just because of the game’s art style. Shadows and shading were already pretty basic, so cel-shading just goes that one step further. The pixel filter, meanwhile, will harken back to the glorious ‘90s when it took you a full $70 in quarters just to beat Street Fighter 2: Turbo.
Eight new tracksuit colors are coming in a variety of color combinations, with a few pink and purple themes alongside some nationalistic colors for Germany, Italia, and Senegal. Finally, several character themes are getting remixed in-game, including Dan’s Theme, Rose’s Theme, Oro’s Theme, Akira’s Theme, and Luke’s Theme.
Street Fighter 5’s definitive update arrives on March 26, so be sure to have your console on to receive the update. And as for Street Fighter 6, it’s still a little too early for Capcom to have divulged many details. But they did give us quite the bulge on Ryu, and I’m all for this new art direction.
