The Batman 2 Is Officially In The Works

This probably won't come as too much of a surprise to most of you, but we now have official confirmation that The Batman 2 is currently in the works, with Robert Pattinson reprising his roled as the Caped Crusader. Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group Boss Toby Emmerich announced the news during a presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas (thanks Deadline) alongside director Matt Reeves who will also be returning to direct the sequel.

Emmerich didn't mention an air date for the movie or any potential plot details, but at least its official confirmation that we haven't seen the last of Robert Pattinson as Batman. After the announcement, Reeves spoke a little bit about the project and thanked those in the room with him for their support during production of the first film.

"Thank you all for your tremendous support for The Batman," said Reeves. "We couldn’t have gotten here without the faith and enthusiasm of all your teams around the world. I’m excited to jump back into this world for the next chapter.”

It was also recently announced that The Batman has amassed over $760 million worldwide and has racked up over 4.1 million streams on HBO Max, making the movie one of Warner Bros. most successful superhero flicks for a while. With those kinds of numbers, it's probably not that surprising that we're getting a second movie with Pattinson in the suit.

The Batman universe has a bunch of interesting villains that could appear in the sequel, but it would be pretty surprising if The Joker wasn't involved in some way. A deleted scene including Barry Keoghan's portrayal of The Joker made the rounds on social media shortly after the film first aired, with some eagle-eyed fans noticing that he stole a paperclip during his meeting with Batman. It's not confirmation that he'll be the main antagonist of the sequel, but this small detail does indicate Warner Brothers has plans for the Clown Prince of Crime.
