If you think the MCU is in a downward spiral, then by comparison, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix's game is in free fall. Marvel's Avengers was not a good game to begin with. It had decent ideas, but failed to capitalize on them, leaving a rather embarrassing stain on Marvel's carpet.
At the time of writing, the 24-hour peak concurrent player count stands at a measly 674 according to SteamDB. Needless to say, that is too low for a live-game made by a triple-A studio and backed by Marvel. And, no matter what the devs have tried to do, they just haven't managed to pull a Destiny-esque u-turn for the game. The future doesn't look very bright for Marvel's Avengers. In fact, according to an insider, its future looks pretty "grim".
Miller is the person to go to for any insider information when it comes to Marvel's Avengers. They were the one who leaked the arrival of Winter Soldier to the game, Captain America's Secret Empire outfit, and also the fact that Embracer is working on a new deal with Marvel. Their information has been correct more often than not.
However, Miller recently talked about the things going on behind the scenes of Marvel's Avengers – at Crystal Dynamics – and if what he says is true, things are more dire than they seem (thanks for the heads-up Zhukov-74).
"I got to tell you, I’m not sure we ever will," said Miller on an episode of The Lunch Table Podcast. "There’s only so much that I can say, I’ve had conversations in the last few weeks that paint a rather grim picture of the future.
"I was on record a few months ago saying I don’t think we’re going to make it to the 4.0 update series. I really don’t see it, he continued. I mean, that’s over a year away. We still have the whole 3.0 update series to get through."
He also mentioned that the Kree will "definitely" come to the game, and that She Hulk was delayed to accommodate time to create an improved multiplayer experience as well as Jane Foster.
