The Last of us Part 2 release date: What is the new Last of Us release date?

The Last of Us Part 2 is Naughty Dog’s follow up to The Last Of Us, the trailblazing semi-survival horror smash hit of 2013. The studio announced the sequel in December 2016 to a delighted audience, but they have since postponed it twice, with the most recent setback just two weeks ago.

What is the new Last of Us release date?

Naughty Dog scheduled the Last of Us Part 2 to come out two months ago, but they pushed it back to May 29 in October 2019.

Back then, game director Neil Druckmann announced it was to bring the game up to what he called “Naughty Dog quality”.

On April 3, they were forced to postpone it once again due to logistical difficulties faced by COVID-19.

In a statement at the time, the developers said: “The good news is, we’re nearly done with the development of The Last of Us Part II.

“We are in the midst of fixing our final bugs.

“However, even with us finishing the game, we were faced with the reality that due to logistics beyond our control, we couldn’t launch The Last of Us Part II to our satisfaction.

“We want to make sure everyone gets to play The last of Us Part II around the same time, ensuring that we’re doing everything possible to preserve the best experience for everyone.”

“This meant delaying the game until such a time where we can solve these logistic issues.

“We were bummed about this decision but ultimately understood what’s best and fair to all of our players.

“We’re hoping that this won’t be a long delay, and we’ll update you as soon as we have new information to share.

“We wish you all, your families, and your friends the best of health. Thank you for being amazing fans and your continued support.”

Naughty Dog has not detailed exactly what logistical issues they faced, and neither they nor Sony has revealed when gamers can expect to get their hands on it.

Some fears have arisen it may face a delay into 2020, but Neil Druckmann recently teased it could arrive sooner.

He said via Twitter: “We’re still working hard with Sony to get you the game as soon as possible.”

The Last of Us Part 2 is one of several games which have suffered delays due to COVID-19.

The physical releases of both the Final Fantasy 7 and Resident Evil 3 remakes were pushed back due to measures which impacted manufacturing.

The Last of Us Part 2 was the first game to suffer a delay entirely, with no digital copies available either.

Iron Man VR followed earlier this month, as Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) axed the game’s May 15 release date.

SIE cited the “global crisis” in their reasoning, and said they wanted to ensure they could provide a “launch experience our players deserve”.
