Tifa Scenes Were Cut From Final Fantasy VII Remake

Tifa Lockhart was planned to have a few solo storylines in Final Fantasy VII Remake, but the developers cut them due to time restraints.

Final Fantasy VII Remake covers the Midgar section of Final Fantasy VII, but extends it to the length of a full game. This means that there are new quests and storylines that weren’t present in the original game. The different members of the party have more scenes dedicated to expanding their character, which is something that both Aerith and Tifa benefit from, as we see more of their blossoming friendship.

The developers of Final Fantasy VII Remake had planned to include more Tifa scenes, but they were cut in development. The Final Fantasy VII Remake Ultimania guide is now available in Japan and aitaikimochi on Twitter has been translating segments of the book into English.

Final Fantasy VII Remake writer Kazushige Nojima and producer Yoshinori Kitase discussed the cut Tifa scenes in the Ultimania guide. In Final Fantasy VII Remake, the player catches up with Tifa as she enters Wall Market, but the original intention was for the player to control Tifa during a storyline set after Cloud’s fall. These scenes include Tifa helping out her landlord, choosing her outfit for the Corneo mission, and finding the Chocobo Wagon that she rides to Wall Market, along with other storylines, but they were cut due to time restrictions.

One of the best things about Final Fantasy VII Remake is how it expanded on the beloved characters from the original game and Tifa benefited from this a great deal. It would have been awesome to show what Tifa and the members of Avalanche were doing when Cloud fell through the church roof, but it’s understandable why it would be cut early on, considering it can all be quickly explained in a few dialogue scenes. It’s also possible that the storyline could be added in a DLC storyline, in a similar manner to how Final Fantasy XV handled its add-on content.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is available now for PlayStation 4.
