Zelda Fans Debate Whether Tears Of The Kingdom Is Connected To The Twilight Realm

Ever since The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was revealed during Nintendo's most recent Direct, fan theories have poured in due to the game's new title and accompanying snippet of gameplay footage. Even our very own Jade King and Ben Sledge have written about how they think Tears of the Kingdom will tell a story of Hyrule's tragic past and is showing parallels with Skyward Sword respectively.

However, another quite popular fan theory at the moment is that Tears of the Kingdom will reintroduce the Twili, a race of shadowy beings who players meet in Twilight Princess. This theory was recently put to the Legend of Zelda subreddit by Redditor Linkaniston, who wonders whether the imagery used in the Tears of the Kingdom implies that the Twili and Midna could be included, comparing the markings on the Master Sword to the markings on Midna's body.

While the majority of players think Midna coming back is likely a stretch, the idea that Tears of Kingdom could reintroduce the Twili race seems to be much more popular. In fact, there are a lot of people who believe that the ruins of the Zonai that can be found throughout Breath of the Wild could be remnants of the Twili before they were cast into the Twilight Realm. Evidence that supports this theory includes the tribes' similar markings between and Redditor faerieRPG brings the pile of rubble that resembles a broken Twilight mirror which can be found in the Zonai Ruins.

Of course, these are all just fan theories and nothing that should be taken as concrete just yet. Thankfully, Nintendo also revealed a release date earlier this week, so it won't be long before we get to see whose theories were the most accurate. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is set to launch on May 12 next year exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
