AMD gives fans first look at new RX 6000 graphics cards … in Fortnite

AMD has finally shown off its newest series of graphics cards, the RX 6000 line, but it probably didn’t do it in the way you might expect. Ahead of the card’s actual reveal event, which is scheduled for Oct. 28, AMD decided to debuted the RX 6000’s hardware design inside of a Fortnite level.

On Monday, AMD tweeted a teaser image of the new graphics card along with a message that let players knows that they could hop into Fortnite’s Creative mode and check the card out for themselves on AMD’s Creative Island.

For players who want to hop into the game and check the card out, you’ll need to start a Creative mode game. Once you’re in the game, find the console in the level select area and put in AMD’s code — 8651-9841-1639 — and hop into the level. You’ll load into AMD’s custom graphics-card-inspection level.

As for the level itself, it’s really just a giant RX 6000 series graphics card floating in midair. Players can run around on top of it or fly around the sides to get a look at the ins and outs, but at the end of the day, it isn’t all that exciting.

Perhaps the most noticeable change in the RX 6000 series are twin eight-pin connectors. These connectors replace the eight-pin connector and six-pin connector on the previous RX 5700 line of cards, and suggest that the RX 6000 series will draw more power than its predecessors.

The higher power could mean that AMD is finally committing to a card that can compete with Nvidia’s high-end GPUs, but for a full reveal on the actual technical specifications of the RX 6000 series of graphics cards, we’ll have to wait until AMD’s event on Oct. 28.
