Borderlands 3’s fourth piece of downloadable content will launch on Sept. 10, just in time for the game’s first-year anniversary. The new DLC is titled Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck, and takes place inside the unstable mind of Krieg, one of the DLC Vault Hunters from Borderlands 2.
In Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck, players will descend into the mind of Krieg, like the most violent Magic School Bus field trip Ms. Frizzle ever saw. Players will face new enemies in beautiful, twisted environments — including a massive Krieg NPC watching over the battlefield.
The vault hunters, guided by Patricia Tannis, are on the hunt for a place called Vaulthalla. Tannis believes the search for Vaulthalla is the source of madness in all of Borderlands’ Psycho enemies, and thinks she can help players find it via Krieg’s brain.
Players will battle Krieg’s “inner demons,” helping the two Krieg NPCs that represent his psyche. While inside Krieg’s brain, Vault Hunters can earn new weapons and cosmetics.
Players will also encounter some familiar faces in Krieg’s brain — the way he sees them — including Maya the Siren from Borderlands 2, and dark versions of Brick, Bloodwing, and Lilith from the original Borderlands.
There is also a new level cap increase, free for all Borderlands 3 players, launching alongside the expansion. According to Gearbox, this is both the largest level increase in the game’s history and the final one planned.
Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck is the final DLC in Borderlands 3’s original Season Pass. It’s currently unclear if Gearbox will continue to support Borderlands 3 with expansions, or just mini-events like the upcoming Anniversary Celebration.
