In Death: Unchained Out Now for Oculus Quest, 20 Mins of Gameplay Inside

Today, Superbright launches its Oculus Quest roguelike exclusive, In Death: Unchained, a tailored port of the 2018 original which includes new content and reworked mechanics. Plus VRFocus has gameplay footage to keep you entertained.

Set across Heaven, Purgatory and Hell, In Death: Unchained is a procedurally generated shooter where each run-through is never the same. Fighting hordes of demons, angels, Templar Knights and other dangerous monsters, the only weapon players have is either a bow or crossbow – the latter has to be unlocked. To improve their odds players can find or buy powerful arrows which can burn enemies, freeze them or explode in their face.

Fail and you’ll be returned to the start, unlocking achievements which can make you more powerful as well as your opponents. Each run will start afresh, so any upgrades picked up in the previous run will be lost. This means In Death: Unchained is a constantly evolving challenge, pushing you to venture deeper whilst making each attempt a little harder.

While the core mechanics remain the same, shooting your way through hordes of opponents, Superbright has included new content. There’s a whole new area, a beautiful and mysterious world called The Abyss, whilst a new checkpoint system allows you to save and stop your run at key locations; great for taking a breather.

In Death: Unchained is available now on the Oculus Store for $29.99 USD. To see the game in action without spoiling any of the later levels check out VRFocus’ gameplay video to see an early run though using the arrow teleportation mechanic.
