Pokemon GO recently rolled out it's latest feature, Adventure Sync.
According to Niantic, Adventure Sync can record your walking distances even when Pokémon GO isn’t launched, working in the background to tally your distance, earn Candy, and hatch Eggs.
Better still, trainers can earn Adventure Sync rewards every week based on their walking progress.
You can opt into Adventure Sync at any time via the games settings menu and thus sync with your phones built in heath app.
According to Niantic's official announcement, this includes Apple Health on Apple devices and Google Fit on Android devices.
But what about other Third Party devices?
Unfortunately, for the time being, it doesn't appear that anyone using a Fitbit can sync their walking distances with Pokemon GO.
This was further backed up fellow research conducted by the Silph Road Sub-Reddit, who posted their finding's on a recent blog post:
"The current consensus is that ALL 3rd party fitness trackers will NOT credit distance towards weekly goals UNLESS they have native support for HealthKit or Google Fit (in essence, only the Apple Watch).
"All 3rd party apps that rely on an intermediary ‘sync/import’ app are counted as “manual input” data, which could be easily falsified and appears to be disallowed by Pokémon GO.
"Claims of various 3rd party peripherals or ‘sync’ apps earning in-game distance credit are believed to be mis-attributing distance awarded from the prior week before the feature launch.
"They should not see distance credited in-game moving forward if the Pokémon GO app is COMPLETELY closed."
For anyone who doesn't know, there's a great Android app called FitToFit, which by the apps own description allows users to "Transfer your fitness data from Fitbit to Google Fit."
However, Pokemon GO trainers have found that this app will NOT work with the new Adventure Sync features.
Replying to a thread on the Silph Road Sub-Reddit one user wrote:
"Your Fitbit steps won't count, only your Google Fit steps will count, so you might as well turn off fit to fit. (I tried the same with Health Sync for S Health, didn't apply at all).
"I think 'imported' steps via 3rd party apps (not directly linked to Google Fit) count as "manual input" and are thus ignored by Adventure Sync."
