Call Of Duty: Warzone — How To Download Battle Royale Without Modern Warfare

Call of Duty: Warzone, a free-to-play battle royale that supports up to 150 players, is available as part of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and a standalone game. It’s a huge download size if you don’t have Modern Warfare, but don’t worry–that just gives you some time to check out our list of Warzone tips.

Modern Warfare players were able to start downloading Warzone at 8 AM PT on March 10; it’s 15-22 GB update depending on whether you’re playing on PC, PS4, or Xbox One. Opening Modern Warfare should prompt the update if it hasn’t already begun on its own, though if you encounter any issues, try restarting your system. Those who don’t own MW can expect an 80-100 GB download.

  • Download on PS4
  • Download on Xbox One
  • Download on PC

Original story follows…

An in-game countdown in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is ticking towards a reveal, which should be for the heavily leaked Warzone Battle Royale mode.

The countdown is set to end at 8 AM PT tomorrow, March 10. It occupies a locked space on the Modern Warfare main menu that was introduced with Season 2, and has been linked to the existence of Warzone since then. Although it appears in Modern Warfare, previous leaks have suggested that Warzone will be both free and standalone, not requiring a Modern Warfare purchase to play.

Earlier today many details about Warzone were confirmed by a now-pulled video showing off its gameplay. This leak confirmed that players will fight in 1v1 matches in a gulag to secure revival, feature 150 players at launch, and support the same cross-play as Modern Warfare’s multiplayer.

Although Warzone has yet to be explicitly mentioned by both the in-game countdown and developer Infinity Ward, it’s expected that this tease will coincide with the launch of the game across PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Call Of Duty: Warzone Player Rips Activision After Dying From A Glitch

Call of Duty: Warzone has seen its fair share of epic kills, but this one is scraping the bottom of the barrel. A redditor filmed their recent death in Warzone at the hands of a player exploiting a new bug. In his frustration he titled the thread, “Only Activision could make a game where this is possible.” We’re not going to defend Activision, but it’s safe to say that other companies — we’re looking at you Bethesda — could probably make a game that’s even “buggier.”

The clip shows a player hunkered down on the second floor of a building, throwing grenades and shooting at a truck that is passing by. They land some great shots on the vehicle and seem to be dealing out a load of damage. The truck — realizing where the assault is coming from — turns around and starts heading for the player’s hideout. Of course, since they’re located on the second floor, they should be safe from the speeding vehicle.

At least, they would be if it wasn’t for a nasty glitch. The truck rams full-speed into the wall below the player and — somehow lands a kill. It’s a ridiculous bug that many players are taking advantage of, according to comments on the video. Vehicles seem to be drawing more and more disgust in Warzone as the weeks go by. Whether or not anything will change is unknown, so until then just run away from anything with wheels. Otherwise you might be cursing Activision, too.

Call Of Duty Mobile "Steel Legion" Update Now Live

Call of Duty Mobile imitates the style of its PC and console counterparts, right down to issuing regular content updates as a live game. The latest season is Steel Legion, introducing new game modes, a new map, and some fan-favorite characters.

A limited-time 2v2 Showdown mode pits you and a partner against another squad of two with single elimination rules and random loadouts that change every two matches. The first pair to win six matches wins the round. If no one pulls that off, you go into an overtime capture-the-flag mode. The update reintroduces the 20v20 Battle Royale mode, but now you can play in first-person perspective. Battle Royale also adds two new weapons, the HS2126 shotgun and UL736 LMG.

You’ll also be able to unlock two characters from the Black Ops series, David “Section” Mason and the war robot Reaper. Those are each available through the Battle Pass, which also includes a new RC Shock killstreak. Finally, the update adds the Black Ops 2 map Meltdown.

This follows just after the surprise-launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered on PS4. Though various leaks gave away the secret ahead of time, its exact launch date was unannounced until it was suddenly available on the PlayStation Store. It’s the campaign only, without multiplayer, and it’s a PS4-exclusive until April 30. At that point it will also come to PC and Xbox One.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare April Fool is the world’s worst playlist

Infinity Ward may have come up with a genuinely funny April Fool’s Day gag this year, with a playlist that’s nothing but the game’s most hated map.

Probably because of the coronavirus, April Fool’s Day has been much more subdued so far this year, although not all of America has woken up yet so the worst may be yet to come.

The best though, is probably the two new playlists that were added last night as part of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare’s big new patch.

Both of them are purposefully awful and troll fans for their love of the map Shipment and their hatred of Piccadilly.

The description reads: ‘Totally Shipment. Come on in. But just so you know, if you quit, there’s a penalty.’ Although, as far as anyone’s been able to tell, there isn’t actually a penalty.

Meanwhile, COD Players Only Want One Thing is a cruel joke on the idea of wanting a permeant Shipment playlist, because it’s 10v10 Shipment – which is almost impossible to play given how small the map is.

The two playlists will probably only last the day, or at most until next Tuesday when the playlists are usually changed.

There are some normal ones as well though, with the return of Gunfight 3v3 Snipers and Cyber Attack Pro, which has automatic respawns instead of needing to revive your teammates.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Will Release For PC, Xbox One In Late April

Activision has officially released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered–though it’s just the campaign and it’s only available on PS4 for now. If you’re looking to play the game on Xbox One or PC, you’ll have to wait until April 30.

A limited-time PlayStation exclusivity deal for a Call of Duty game isn’t anything new, this has been the tradition for the franchise since 2015. Normally, however, the PlayStation exclusivity is only in regards to multiplayer–either a certain mode is limited to PlayStation at the start (like Spec Ops Survival in 2019’s Modern Warfare) or PlayStation gets access to certain content updates first (like in 2018’s Black Ops 4).

For a whole single-player campaign to launch for one system first is a new one. Sure, when Modern Warfare Remastered first released as a standalone campaign, it was a PS4 limited-time exclusive too, but it was also already available as a free add-on for buying certain editions of Infinite Warfare. You didn’t have to wait for the Xbox One and PC versions back then, you just had to wait if you wanted to get it on its own. In comparison, people looking to play MW2 Remastered on Xbox One or PC do have to wait as the game isn’t bundled in with any other Call of Duty title.

Regardless, if you’re looking to pick up MW2 Remastered and you have a PS4, you can buy it right now on PSN for $20 USD.

In regards to MW2’s campaign, Chris Watters wrote, in GameSpot’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 review, “The inelegant campaign plot may make you feel like you’re just along for the ride, but it is such an intense, roaringly great ride that you will be glad just to have played it.”

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.

Two Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Modes Just Got Updated With A Special Twist

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone continue to evolve. Activision has announced that both modes have received new variants that give you a new way to play.

Starting off with Modern Warfare, there is a new “Pro” version of Cyber Attack for standard multiplayer. The twist with this version of the mode is that players can now respawn instead of needing to be revived by teammates. According to Activision, this creates “frenetic and fast-paced gameplay” as players juggle between killing enemies and playing the objective.

The other new variant is “Blood Money,” which is for the Warzone mode Plunder. In this twist on what we’re used to, players get even more cash than before for killing enemies. Additionally, taking down enemies with a finishing move and completing contracts earns more money than before. This should make Plunder and even more chaotic, as players scramble to get extra cash.

In other Call of Duty news, both Modern Warfare and Warzone are offering double XP this weekend, which comes at a good time considering the Season 2 battle pass is about to end.

On top of that, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is rumored to launch on March 31. It will include a remastered version of the campaign, but no multiplayer, according to the leaks.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remaster Launches Tomorrow According To PSN Leak

A remaster of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is indeed real, according to a PSN listing in Germany. It’s also set to launch far sooner than you might expect, with the revitalized campaign scheduled for tomorrow, March 31. It will retail for 25€ (or an expected $30).

The remaster was leaked previously thanks to a ratings listing on a South Korean Ratings board, after having been rumored to be in development since the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 in 2018. Files pertaining to the remaster were then datamined out of the latest patch for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare over the weekend, before the trailer and release date leaked on PSN in Germany before any official announcement.

The remaster includes only the campaign of Modern Warfare 2, which continues the story of Soap MacTavish and Captain Price, and features the infamous “No Russian” mission. Although the remaster won’t include multiplayer like the original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare remaster in 2016, some Modern Warfare 2 maps have already been added to 2019’s Modern Warfare.

The listing on PSN states that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2: Campaign Remastered (its official title) features “completely remastered with improved textures, animations, physical rendering, HDR lighting, and more.”

Back in 2008, our Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 review scored the shooter a 9/10, with critic Chris Watters describing it as a, “thoroughly excellent package that is sure to thrill shooter fans and deprive them of sleep for months to come.”

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 remaster out this week claim rumours

The long-rumoured remaster of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 could actually be coming this week, or even later today.

At this point, the Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 remaster may as well be public knowledge. The thing has been rumoured and purportedly leaked for years now, with the latest leak suggesting it will release next month.

Now, the newest claim is that it will come out as early as today. This comes from Twitter user Okami13, who has reliably leaked Call Of Duty related info in the past, such as details for Call Of Duty: Warzone.

Okami wrote that they were ’99.9999%’ sure it will release today, though that obviously isn’t a guarantee.

Okami has since backpedalled, saying that there won’t be any multiplayer but that the maps from Modern Warfare 2 will instead be included in the current Modern Warfare title.

While you could write this off as just a rumour, it does somewhat correlate with new claims from VGC, which earlier reported that the Modern Warfare 2 remaster is set to release this week.

It does seem rather unlikely for the remaster to unexpectedly drop today, but the odds of it releasing sometime in April seem high, especially with Season 3 of Warzone starting next week.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone are available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Seemingly Leaked On Korean Rating Board

Activision Blizzard released a remastered version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare back in 2017, and the company appears primed to give its sequel the same treatment. The South Korean ratings board has apparently leaked the game, suggesting that the fan-favorite sequel might get an updated re-release.

The Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC) site has a listing for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, registered on February 26. Given the name, this is just a remaster of the campaign, not the multiplayer. Modern Warfare Remastered did include its own game’s multiplayer with new tweaks and achievements. This doesn’t necessarily mean it will be missing from the final MW2 Remastered product, though, as that listing could simply be separate.

None of this is to be confused with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the relaunch of the Modern Warfare series that released last year. That’s currently getting a ton of ongoing content with ongoing seasons and battle passes. Most recently it added the battle royale Warzone, which is free to all players regardless of whether you own the base game, and gives you the same cosmetic battle pass rewards.

The free-to-play aspect seems to have been a hit, having reached 6 million players in its first 24 hours. If you want to jump into Warzone, check out some of our best tips to get you off on the right boot.
